Lawwell didn't want him because he was hideous. He just didn't want to have to say it. He was imaging the photo ops and didn't want a repeat of the Hayes debacle (who resembled an alcoholic who'd won some sort of Celtic photo competition at his press unveiling)

The fact that he is a celtic fan shouldnt distract you from the clear and obvious errors we made as a club.

Football is a dog eat dog environment, especially given that we are already at a disadvantage to the finances down south.

Look at him purely as a footballer who could have been a huge asset to us. We missed out on him when we had a clear run at him, by delaying and low balling which allowed others in.
Whatever your opinion on JM, he isnt at celtic due to failures in the board room.

Hibs would have sold JM to whoever offered the most money. Thats the bottom line.
The fact that we eventually had a bid accepted which matched Villas bid, proves that. It was the same situation with Steven Fletcher. We fannied about and offered below their value and he left for england.
There is this unfounded notion that there is a fractured relationship between Petrie and Lawell or Hibs and Celtic.
Players have moved between the two clubs for years.

Spot On ! McGinn would have listened only to his agent and followed his advice, he said this before, when he joined Hibs.
He was a commodity and his $$$ value will literally rocket if he performs in the EPL, that and only that is what the agent would be looking at.

Villas offer was the same as ours in summer 2018 but future prospects ?

Id love to know what Neil L ( his manager the time) advised him to do.

The same would have happened with us, he would have had a higher platform to showcase himself in europe.
VVD, Wanyama, Forster, Ki and Dembele are all prime examples of how players have moved on to england after us.

Villa would have offered him good wages and im sure he more than doubled what he was on at hibs but im sure that we could have matched that and im sure that figure wont be over 20k per week.

Im well aware mate. Regardless of the country, it shows that players get exposure and move on to some of Europe's top leagues and teams.

Looking at the targets on that list got me thinking. Do Celtic have scouts placed in European countries that live and breath the domestic leagues they play in? Look at it like this- I have a lot of mates down South as I used to live there. In their ignorance they would ask me about this player and that player (VVD a classic example when he played with us) as i would have an deep knowledge of the players in our league- not just Celtic- based purely on the fact that i watch ever game and follow Celtic. I am no expert by any stretch of the imagination as far as professional scouting goes, nor am i proclaiming to be, but id like to think i have a reasonable in depth knowledge of the Scottish game and its players. Naming the starting 11 of the top 6 sides , where the play, formation, who the danger men are etc etc. And that's just me as a fan. There's tens of thousand's like me in Scotland. So the question is- do we have scouts that do this in , say, Montenegro and would know every team, their first 11 (give or take) and the star men? Or are we stuck in the dark ages? A club the size of Celtic should employ at least 5 people in every European country to scout out every team and player. Even if its just local fans with a passion for the league! Maybe they do. I just don't get that impression at all from all our 'targets'.

I think it'll be more of a network of contacts in other countries, rather than scouts that are full-time employees of Celtic.
