I am not a British nationalist just because i dont want Britain broken up.I want countries to unite, not break up.Breaking up Britain wont help that come about. It isnt important for Scotland to become independent. What is important is for people to tear borders down, to find a way to unite.I dont have the definitive answer as to how this will be achieved, but i steadfastly refuse to believe going in the opposite direction will speed up its happening.

I was a Liberal.I have changed back to Labour because of Jeremy Corbyn.I am not against change, or the idea of people changing their politics.......but i am totally against this happening en masse, which basically invalidates it as a conscious change. It is like a siren's call has been sounded.

I witnessed people talking about this in pubs and clubs etc.Guys who would never have voted SNP reassuring each other and cajoling each other as they gradually were swayed by the campaign, as the whole nationalist fervour got up a head of steam. It was like a juggernaut, and inevitably the NO campaign had to fight back using any means at their disposal.

Calling people sheep was a knee * reaction to reading another uninformed * * blog referencing those in the NO camp as cowards or fearful....which makes my blood boil.
Not only do i reject it completely, but i think the opposite is true. With the wave of nationalism at its height, people daring to say they were NO voters were subjected to ridicule and some blatant hostility from those who were new converts to the YES campaign.I was subjected to this on many occasions when the subject came up among my friends/colleagues/family.It was impossible as a NO campaigner to raise your head above the parapet without taking flak......but most of us stayed with it, and we won.(albeit temporarily)No, it was cowardly to get caught up in the campaign, and to change your view on politics because everyone else was doing it......and i refuse to believe that was not the case in many instances.

I think there is a bit of racism and xenophobia at large yes.

The sheep thing was a reaction, but i do believe that many people did 'follow' blindly (in the same way people remained stalwarts blindly)and got caught up in the hysteria. Not everyone of course, but many.

Obviously not everyone falls into that category, but people are people, and Scottish people are just as inherently racist as English people, so the racists among us do exist, whether we (Scots)arrogantly look down our noses at the English for being more right wing, or not......so my guess is that for every StGeorges flag outside a terraced ex council house in Wolverhampton owned by an EDL supporter, there will also be a StAndrews flag outside a terraced ex council house in Dundee or Aberdeen who will be just as racist.

Of course im not saying everyone who drapes a national flag outside their home is a racist, but to my mind, they are far more likely to be.

Its funny, but as a wean and young person, i used to love the St Andrews flag, as it made me proud as i got caught up in football or Lachie Stewart, or Jackie Stewart or Ian Stewart, or Rod Stewart.......but now i have disowned the flag completely in the same way i have the UJ.
I hate them all and all they represent.

So considering there's 60 odd million of them and 5m of us, you're saying Scotland is more racist?

No, im saying we are equally liable to be racist in Scotland as they are in England.I think people are people the world over.....but i think nationalism (in whatever form it takes) awakens or enhances any racist undertones in a persons psyche.

I think that is absolute bollocks.

You think a nationalistic base that wants to welcome refugees, help the poor and unfortunate are inherently racist?

On that as well as the EU ,basically anything they are 'principled' on :smiley-laughing002:

As I have said before IF corbyn was as principled as is claimed he would have resigned from the labour party many years ago and stood as an Independent candidate but he never, says it all really.

Not sure if you are implying anything about the national anthem, as I couldn't give a * if he sings it or not, BUT he should have, at the very least, been aware that as the leader of the labour party it would be expected for him to sing it. So if he never knew that what else has he no clue about ffs :56:

I never said we are inherently racist, i said we are just as liable to be racist as English people......and just because this present incarnation of the SNP have 'moved' to the left a bit and Nicola has seen an opportunity to get on the news when that 3 yearold girl was found drowned, does not mean that all separatists are happy to welcome refugees.

Germany has offered to take in 800 000......and NS offered to take in 1000.(initially she says)Even proportionally that is only 2% of what the right wing German govt has offered to take in......so i dont think quoting the SNP as willing to take in refugees really holds any water.

PS, i think if NS had offered a similar proportion as Germany, ie, 50 000 people, she would have lost almost all public support and that of her own party.

So the trident debate ,despite jez wanting to debate it at conference, never happened and in fact the conference seem to have actually committed the labour party to 'The full renewal of trident' so much for jezza being the leader :smiley-laughing002:

    http://www.newstatesman.com/politic...abour-conference-voted-favour-trident-renewal

Anyone else looking forward to his speech in an hour , should be fun. Wonder what he will give up on next .. :97:

Corbyn is quickly finding himself too left for the PLP to stomach but also he will be equally disappointing his left wing supporters with his lack of bite so far. It is all unravelling rather quickly.
