I agree, I'd stick the lad in midfield, for me he looks like the typical midfielder who plays in centre of defence and takes too many chances.

Rodgers will know far better than I do, but would prefer if he got played in midfield for a season. For a start can't be worse than Brown and Biton.

But from games I watched in pre-season, yes he done OK, but like others have said, took a couple of risks and personally didn't think his positioning was great. Thought it a bit obvious he looked like a midfielder in defence.

However, I think with a bit more muscle he can be the real deal as seems to have proper maturity, strength and control for his age. Just don't think defence is best place for him.

He was caught out of position because he hasn't played that position before. In the previous games he played right CB, he was brought on to replace Erik at left CB. I thought the boy did well and he will improve with experience.

Hot young talent makes his debut for his club at 16 years old, is quickly made club captain, hit 12 goals in the 2015 season from midfield.

He's then reportedly gaining interest from clubs such as Liverpool, Tottenham, AS Roma and Hertha Berlin, but moves to us.

What do we do? We deploy this young goalscoring midfielder....in defence.

    Here's an idea, buy a * defender!

    This.

He should be played where he's best effective. But in the mean time, he has done well in defence. A tribute to his flexibility if anything but, of course, we really ought to be solving the main problem instead of trying to sticky tape an open wound.
Get in a quality defender, Pete!

He's obviously being used as an emergency defender.

I have no issues with that.

By what logic is 9 goals in 54 League games a goal scoring midfielder?

He's an 18 year old kid with good physical and technical attributes and he'll become whatever we want him to become. Van Dijk scored the same amount of League goals in 2 seasons for us as Ajer did in Norway.

The media over there, his ex Manager and Deila all think he'll evolve into a centre half. There's nothing to stop him being like a Mjallby/Wanyama for now and being capable of playing both positions whilst he develops.

Exactly. It will only aid his development being able to play in multiple positions. The fact of the matter is that right now he's as good an option as any we have alongside Sviatchenko therefore I'd rather see him utilised there than sat on the bench awaiting a chance in midfield.

Have to agree that I don't want to see him in defence but also agree with the fact that he is 6,5 and has half decent defensive attributes so for the short term if him being in defence solves our Efe problem or plugs a gap then I'm happy for him to be there, I don't think Rodgers or anyone at Celtic see's him as a centre back for the future. He seems happy to play there and reminds me of Ledley who wasn't a defender but was sometimes but at the back to help the side when he was needed.

Would love to see Ajer in midfield at some point though to see what he can truly produce.

Chris Sutton was a goal scoring striker

Looked decent tonight but looks very raw. Is a long way from 1st team starter in my opinion.
