I reckon he was also talking about him when saying there is some players who look like they can be moulded into a centre half

I'm sure Rodgers targeted him at Liverpool.

That's what I was thinking mate, very interesting defo got the height for it anyway haha. Seems to already have a good relationship with Erik as well going by how often they're with each other. Could be interesting to see how that one develops Brendan will know his best position and if he sees him as a CB then you never know. One to keep an eye on for sure.

Liverpool may have but definitely not Rodgers.

He used Ajer as an example of someone he knew nothing about.

Which got me pretty excited if he's impressed in that time frame.

I wonder what position Rodgers will mould him into?

Couple of the Norwegian lads on Twitter said at the time he was a ready made centre half but because he was basically Start's best player by miles he played centre mid where he could influence things more.

He's a natural leader, aggressive, massive for a teenager and is both quick and strong. You'd imagine anything else he'd need can be worked on.

Also played behind the striker for them at times did he not?

I genuinely don't know what to expect from this lad.

We might see him in a couple of positions during pre-season. Personally, I hope he is seen as a defensive midfielder He has the size and aggression to shield the defence, plus by all accounts he isn't bad on the ball at all.

    That's interesting........

I noticed Rodgers stating in that interview that they're looking at the centre half position (I assume with a view to making an addition to the defence), so perhaps Ajer could be an option there?

Perhaps he could be like the reverse Wanyama - Victor was brought in as a CB and was promoted to midfield after a few injuries to other players and nailed the position. Ajer is (from my understanding) being touted as a midfielder, but at 6'5, he could nail down as a ball-playing defender.

Surely then - if Rodgers sees Ajer as a potential CB, then he must have a bit of savvy about him to play the holding midfielder role, eh?

I have no memory of Wanyama being brought in as a cb. I'm sure the very first training video I saw of him he was bossing the midfield.

He played at home against St Johnstone and was poor.

I remember it clear as day.

Lenny and Mjallby seen him as a centre back and were training him to be one, injury problems got him his shot in the midfield and he seized his opportunity.

Was he supposed to be cb long term or was it just cover? I know he was a dm when he played in Belgium.

I remember clearly when we signed him, his partner in central defence at Beerschot was in the papers talking about him. He played at centre back alot in Belgium. I remember the guy said that Wanyama had alot to learn in that position, but had the raw materials

I remember at one point hearing/reading that he was unhappy about being played at CB back as he felt cm was his natural position.

Wanyama was brought in as a guy who could play either position. The first game I properly remember seeing him was at Tynecastle and he was excellent. Rough, but I knew we had a good player on our hands.

He played in a back three a couple of times, too. Notably against Rangers.

Didn't he hate CB though? I swear I remember all the talk around him in Belgium being a DM and wanting to be in the midfield. * man, maybe I just made it all up :smiley-laughing002:
