Rather than Eddy, could we be waiting to see what happens with Christie before pulling the trigger on this one?

 

Possible, but Christie is being deployed as a winger, while Lovrić is an inside forward. Unless we get a more attacking LB, an inside forward could hamper our attacking ability.

 

Nah I think it’s Eddy leaving that would get this over the line. Christie plays well out on the left but I’d prefer to have a left winger who’s going to take players on and get to the bye line at times.

 

Christie on the left will go to the byline, but Christie on the right will try to cut in on his left foot more often than not

 

I’d still get him in if Christie stays, adds more options especially with Johnston and Dembele still injured.

 

Agree with this. If Kyogo is playing striker we currently have no fit left wingers in the squad,
Christie is playing well but might not be here by the end of the month and Mikey is constantly injured.

Lovric sounds a good fit, been scoring frequently for 3 years now and for about £4m is affordable. Him and a striker with physical presence and we have some serious options in the front 3 and just need to sort the defence out.

I'm against signing a pure inside forward though. Our play is as good as it is because of a standard winger setup. A player ramming himself into a wall of defensive players would ruin things.

That's what I was thinking as well. I assumed Christie was definitely off but after Ange's comments yesterday maybe they are still thinking he will sign a new contract.

Even if that is the case we can't leave it for too long, we've seen what dithering on these kinds of things leads to all too often over the last year. And besides even if Christie does sign a new contract there is a good chance we sell him in a year anyway, so get the new guy in now for cover and competition, as well as being in a stronger position when we do receive offers for Christie.

 

Would Lovrić want to rot on the bench? Christie right now is undroppable.

I think there will be plenty of games, injuries, suspensions etc. for everyone to get time this year. Ultimately if we renew Christie’s contract and have competition for the place then if a big or even modest offer comes in we can pull the trigger.

We need to start being optimistic as a club with transfers.

 

Countless players were signed, and never given a proper chance. It's wasteful spending, and makes us look bad. Unless Ange intends to heavily rotate, then bringing Lovrić is not a priority.

 

Ange does intend to heavily rotate, he said so himself yesterday.

Regardless, we don’t have a recognised left winger / inside forward other than Kyogo (who is now our first choice striker) and Mikey Johnston (who is constantly injured), so it’s a position that we desperately need to invest in.
