Strangely, I kinda agree with both of you. :smiley-laughing002:

Commons has given a lift to the team in recent weeks so it seems like a blow that he's going to be out for the Inter game. However, I've lost count of the number of times I've come on here after European games and said Commons isn't good enough for that level of football. Too often him and Anthony Stokes have failed us at that level.

If Commons had played against Inter I'd have been ok with it but I'm really not that concerned that he's going to be out. I'm more worried about him missing domestic games because he is a match winner for us at that level.

He's going to have to fight to get back into that starting 11

    Agreed.

He's been working harder though. The pressing system is useless if just one guy isn't pulling their weight but he's been putting a shift in.

Think he could be vital off the bench in Italy if fit.

I am torn. GMS showed something last night. He gave their defenders a game and may do so again although they may suss him out this time around. Commons is always a weapon. Big call glad i dont have to make it

He'll struggle to get back in the team. I wouldn't surprised if he was just used mostly as a sub for the rest of the season.

Game would've been much more different last night with Commons playing, quite bad for getting caught whilst in possession or generally not taking the ball under control quick enough in Europe, plus obviously can't press anywhere near as much as Johansen does. Doesn't get the same time as he would domestically and he struggles to adapt to that.

hmmm hard to know, with the amount of the ball we were getting then commons guile and directness could have been useful to be honest, fair dues to GMS though he had a good game and gave Ronny something to think about

He's a decent player & a good substitute to bring on but that's were he'll serve us best for me, Off the bench! GMS/JOHANSEN/ARMSTRONG/GUIDETTI that's where I see our best 4 up top!

Excluding Matthews I think that's our strongest 11 we played lastnight

Scored 2 goals today which was great to see. Somehow still wouldn't start him against Inter though...

Always comes up with important goals when we find it hard to break teams down. Immense.

I dont see were he doesn't fit into ronny's system ,played great today and has the eye to split a defence.

Not at his best today and still managed 2 goals. Vital player for us.

I think it's more to do with the fact he isn't quick enough to press players the way gms or Armstrong can, didn't really need to do that today as Hamilton were parking the buss for a lot of the game.

Agree he may not be the quickest but he is sharper in thought and also was still running and chasing as much as the younger ones .

That's for sure. People say that he does not fit into Ronny's system but they mistakenly think pace and power is what is needed. Commons has guile and a football brain. He is brilliant in these games. At home to teams parking the bus he is our biggest asset. Top player
