He was poor last night I thought. His passing first half was very poor, and the one where he passed it right out the park summed up his first 45mins. Chose the wrong option on a few occasions as well by just looking to shoot at any given opportunity, then had a cheek to have a pop at Griffiths for doing the same later in the 2nd half.

People at the game were moaning at him for not shooting on several occasions, you just can't win.

Biggest plus for me is we look far better as a team and more balanced when he's been out on the right. It's no coincendence our right backs have started effecting the team as much as our left since Commons has been out there.

I didn't hear anyone asking him to shoot more if I'm honest, surely it must have been said in a sarcastic tone. He had more than enough shots last night, all bar one that I can remember went sailing over as well. His use of the ball was very poor I thought, especially first half.

Really not, there was 4/5 occasions when he was in a position to shoot and chose to pass. He was also part of some very good moves between the front 4 and Izzy.

Some of that was a joy too watch last night, Commons was a big part of it.

I disagree completely. Felt he had a poor game last night, and you could see he wasn't happy with himself first half. He had 1 or 2 long diagonals to Izaguirre that come off, but that was as good as it got for him. What was a joy to watch however, was Stokes and Izaguirre. The understanding they have is fantastic. They always seem to find one another. Deila deserves a lot of credit for seeing Stokes as left winger, because he has been brilliant in that position in my opinion.

His pass that also sent Lustig on his way for his diving header.
He was quieter than usual but probably because he wasn't shooting so much.

See the move that played in Matthews in the first half, between Johansen, Commons and Griffiths. I think that's the best football I've saw all season, it was * fantastic. Commons switching the play added an extra dimension to our game as well, it stretched the game. Everything looks more balanced with him in there, more dangerous.

Stokes and Izzy have been like that all season, it's only now that we're getting the right side up to the same sort of level. Both sides of the pitch are looking very dangerous just now.

People always say he alows the game down, always something that's baffled me, one of very few who plays the early pass.

Agree about Stokes and Izaguirre. The right side has been more of a problem due to us not having Lustig for large parts, and Matthews hasn't been at his best. Ambrose played right back in the opening stages and was chronic. I actually think the football at times this season has been very good, however, we have failed to kill teams off in games far too often. Even last night we were guilty of missing some sitters.

I would have liked him to have shot earlier last night as well, purely because he's our best option from distance and Motherwell were camped in their box.

Best thing he done a few times last night was switch the play because he was doing it from deep on the right hand side and it was releasing Emilio and Stokes in plenty of space.

I think it's because the way we're set up isn't really creating chances for out and out goalscorers, look at our three chances last night - Izzy hits the bar, Lustig hits the bar and Johansen hits the post. We'll always be missing chances when it's not the goalscorers that are getting in those positions.

On the right when it was Ambrose you are right but Matthews has been back to his best when Commons has been infront of him, it's much better than the likes of McGregor. Commons creates space, our full backs are more than happy to exploit that.

I thought he was pretty good last night. Not our best player on the night but he had a good game.

And the main reason Commons creates space? Defenders want to try and stop him shooting from range.
Whether some people like it or not.
His shooting is a danger to other teams, it might not work all the time (but do Ronaldo and Messi smash them in from all over the park every night? No) but it definitely brings fear to other teams and they put 2 or 3 men closing him down when he is around the box - this only benefits the other players and like you say, namely the full backs.
Sometimes he fails to see the best pass - but then that's easy to say when your sat 200 feet up in a stand or on your couch!

It's not just last night though mate is it. Look at the game this season we have ended up winning by the odd goal but could and should have had a barrow load. Look at the chances the likes of Scepovic and Guidetti have missed at times, and Commons in the games he has played, all of whom are goalscorers. Partick at home, Motherwell away, Kilmarnock the other week. There is 3 off the top of my head where our more attacking players were guilty of not killing the game off.

You won't get me debating the point Commons being better than McGregor in a wide area. That goes without saying, and I've always said I would be happy enough with Commons playing wide right ahead of him.

For me he was the weakest link in what was a fast fluid high pressure high tempo football team.

I'd like to keep him but not on a 2 year contract. A 33 year old Commons playing in a high pressing game just isn't something I imagine happening with any success.

Just you watch. Commons will do the business for us in the next 2 years.

I don't believe there is a Commons dilemma . Just leave the situation alone .
No club wants him or they would be in with a pre-contract .
Commons has a habit of talking loyalty but letting his contract run almost out before moving to new club . He has been with us four years , great after he came for a few months , average for the rest of the time apart from a very good season last season .
It doesn't look as if he fits into Deila's very hard working style of play .
