Kris Commons

  1. Ledley was a lose-lose. If he had been sold for a few million, people would have moaned we're a selling club. Instead he stayed until January (which was practically the end of our season apart from cup games) and people moan he was allowed to leave cheap.

He said himself he was 50/50 about leaving until the last minute (left 31st January), so it was worth losing a few million for the hope he might extend his contract by a couple of years.

On the other hand, I think our attitude to Sammy was poor. Okay, he wasn't great in his last season, but bear in mind this was probably because he knew he was getting punted regardless of form. I mean, he went into that final year as fans POTY and wasn't offered a reasonable contract, how would you play? Even saying that, he wasn't as bad in that last season as some make out.

Personally, I don't think I would offer Commons the 2 year contract because in that second year I don't think he'll be good enough for us. For me, that's the bottom line.

  2. As long as Lawwell's wages continue to rise, that's the main thing.

  3. Indeed.

  4. Eh? Ticket prices have been dropped. Under £500 for me and my two kids this year, same as last year and the year before (if I recall.) Absolute bargain. In short:

    Rangers die.

    We lose competition.

People aren't motivated to buy season tickets.

We can't afford our top earners.

The only way for us to break this mould is like Fergus said: if you call yourself a supporter and can afford it, buy a season ticket and support your team.

But don't expect a half full Celtic Park to be paying our players anywhere near £25K a week regularly. It's simply not sustainable.

Without the supporters, football is nothing. With half a support, I guess we are half of what we could be (emotional claptrap, but hope you get the idea :p)

  5. Commons hasn't traveled to Spain.

  6. Think Kris has already made up his mind, and I dont believe we can compete with wages on offer in Englands 2nd tier. He must have been scunnered to see guys that couldn't lace his boots starting, and being in and out the team, while hardly setting the heather on fire. This is what baffles me about Ronny, same is happening with Griffiths, I hope Henderson is not the next 'victim".

  7. Staying back with his and our representatives most likely, unless it's decided he's deffo offski ..

  8. Wonder is last night was the last time we'll see him in a Celtic top.

  9. According to Twitterland, his uncle just died :(

  10. He did look fitter and quicker last night than earlier this season, wonder if he's starting to buy into the Deila fitness regime.

  11. How many games has he started this season?

  12. Aye his uncle died last night and he's going to see his family. Not like he's * off (yet).
Personally I would offer a two year deal with a coaching option. Pretty sure Lenny was thinking the same before he left last season.
Who's to say he couldn't handle two more seasons? If a player can stay fit and adapt his game they can last that little longer.

Tbh last night was the first time in a long time I'd seen commons really show a bit more energy and little bursts of pace (not fast mind) and really taking players on.
Don't think his time here is up just yet.

    tight board.

  13. There should be less of a dilemma after last night's match. He was head and shoulders above every other player on the pitch.

  14. I think a two yr contract is a must, the man has a young family and wants some security

If Celtic do not offer him a contract then i am sure many other clubs will, he has a lot to offer off the pitch, he is mature and can help bring on youngsters. He wont turn in great performances every game but he gives us options.. too many players in our squad dont put in consistent performances.

I would like him here for long term but if he goes then he should do so with our blessing, been a good player for us and i hope it gets sorted out asap

  15. That is the fittest and fastest I have seen Commons, was last night, and he seemed to be involved in everything attack and defense wise, so it looks like Kris is buying into the fitness regime of Deila's.I think he will be offered a last minute two year deal, and he deserves it.

  16. He was excellent last night - deserved at least the one goal.

I think his time is up here as they won't give the the 2 year contract. However as I said in the other thread when in the history of Celtic, let alone the ability of our current squad, have we ever been able to leave out a 30 goal a year midfielder?

  17. Stretching the facts a bit there. He's not a 30 goal a year midfielder. He managed that feat once. If he was a true 30 goal a year midfielder he'd have been given a contract long ago.

  18. Agree, I thought he was superb from start to finish.

  19. :smiley-laughing002: I thought that myself when I typed it.

When have we been able to leave out a midfielder/attacker who scored 30 goals in his last season for us? The same player who had a great record in his first season and nearly 20 in his 3rd.

Add that to the fact our strikers are pretty * infront of goal also.
