Kris Commons

I think the fact he's a bit of a * (Ambrose/Molde) don't help his case at all but I just honestly can't see he's one of the best, I wouldn't put him in the top 20 of the past 20 years and he'd need to be top 10 to be "one of the best"

  1. He was right about Efe and Ronny though, whether expressing that opinion or showing his frustration in public was the right thing to do is another matter..

  2. Don't even know how this is splitting opinion. He'll go down with cult hero status. Love the guy. His ball striking was stuff of legend. Really can't think of any Celtic player since I've been watching Celtic that's consistently hit the ball the way he does.

Lot of disrespect in this thread.

  3. Commons was a great spl player but definitely not in top 10 of last 20 years - no pace or fitness and that held him back from being a force in the champions league proper or the premier league, i know he did score some champions league goals but they were normally some of the worse qualifier teams and he always looked short of pace against the big games

  4. this is exactly my view

  5. My ranking of Commons- players since 2000. Top ten:

    1) Henrik Larsson
    2) Lubo Moravcik
    Then in no particular order:
    Van Dijk
    Sutton
    Nakamura
    Petrov
    Commons
    Brown
    Lambert
    Thompson

    Honorable mentions:

    McGeady
    Hartson
    Boruc
    Wanyama
    Hooper

Have a feeling im missing players though lol

  6. Van Dijk and Wanyama ultimately will go down as Cadete's, Di Canio's and Big Pierre's. Good Celtic players, here for some good moments but never ultimately hung about long enough to make themselves proper Celtic hero's.

  7. It was justified passion, nothing wrong with that

  8. If he treated brendan like that after being subbed that'd still be justified passion?

  9. Think him getting subbed was the last straw for him. Ronny was making a bit of a * of the whole thing, players and fans were becoming increasingly frustrated. Think that just put the tin lid on if for Kris. Ronny won two leagues but he was a pretty poor manager, the players could see that every bit as much as us

  10. Brendan wouldn't treat him like that.

We were losing in Molde, we had pished away a 2-1 lead in Ajax and a 2-0 lead at Parkhead to Fenerbache. He was justifiably angry. Was nice to see the fans back him.

  11. He scored goals, shown real passion, and ultimately won games on his own for us. He's a hero for me, for all his drawbacks (mainly fitness/pace) he would step up to the challenge. I have a lot of respect for him and the way he's taken the club to heart :50: just my opinion

  12. Decent player and liked the fella but i will never forgive him for getting sent off that day against ICT and we drew or got beat just few games before the end of season. I remember thinking, if he hadnt got sent of in that game, wed have won the league only for them jammy * across the city to clintch it

  13. He also worked his balls off in some games. Especially in Europe when we didn't have much of the ball.
He is often called lazy and often against SPL * he would float about the middle of the park - probably as a tactical thing than him not wanting to work.
Guy is getting slagged for some reason here and he has been a brilliant signing.

  14. He wasn't sent off.

He scored two goals in that game which we lost 3-2.

  15. No-one should hold the Molde incident against him. He was in the wrong and apologised for it the next day. Done.

  16. Have to agree with this. His work rate was often poor but never against the big teams. Put in some shift against Barca for example.

  17. HE must have been suspended for next game or something. TBH, im not 100% on it but remember at the time it cost us. Listen, im not slating him as a player, i liked him and i dont see how some people are slating him because he was a decent player for us. I just remember that game and thinking that celebration cost us when he went into the crowd.

  18. Game he missed we won 4-0. The red at tyncastle did send him on a bad run the next season 11/12 he only scored 1 goal and was sent off at tynecastle again.
