Neither Sammy or Commons are 'legends' despite both contributing loads.

Sammy is more of a cult hero because of his enigmatic style. Commons will go down as a bargain purchase and a big contributor to recent successes.

Look at the teams he got them agains. Take his goals and assists out the team and we wouldn't have qualified for the Champions League groups stages and to be honest they were the most important games that really mattered in those seasons.

He was a million times better for us than Crosas was.

The SPL is our bread and butter and if you don't want to show up for 90% of the games then I don't want you being classed a Celtic legend or even a great. It's a massive disservice to the actual legends and icons of the club.

Samaras is a cult hero who gave us some great moments but more often than not, was *. Its not a hard concept to grasp.

Your correct there is only about 15 guys outside the Lions and Jock I'd consider true legends of the club.

I think it depends what style of football you like probably in the last ten years he's the Celtic player I've enjoyed watching most and he was more often than not our best player in our toughest games.

Out of all the players we've had in the last 10 year Sammy is the one you liked best. Each to their own but that's a mental opinion to hold in my view.

FFS guys like Sutton, Thompson, Hartson all did more for Celtic and they aren't legends either. They are greats.

Samaras is a cult hero, nothing wrong with that.

Whilst I don't necessarily disagree with you I wouldn't protest at anyone calling them legends I mean they're not on the level of people like Larsson, Dalglish etc... who were gods among men but they were so highly rated (rightly so) I love them anyway.

I love Commons too, he was my favourite player in our squad years ago but I'd still have to protest someone calling him or Samaras legends, not even close.

Anything on Commons being shifted on.

This Kouassi boy in Glasgow today, looking like we want to strengthen our position even further. Commons will be on a decent wedge as well (£15k or there abouts) and it could be freed up to bring in someone Brendan wants to utilise.

The word "legend" gets thrown about far too quickly.

Samaras certainly isn't a legend. Commons even less so.

I'd class Commons in a higher bracket than Samaras tbh. Contributed more to Celtic than Sammy.

Commons knew he was a big figure in the dressing room though and used it to try and turn folk against Ronny. The Molde outburst and I remember him in the papers giving Ronny stick and maybe even Lennon as well. I'll never hold someone who thinks their word goes over a managers in as high regard as someone who maybe contributed the same but never caused a fuss.

The reason I have Sammy above Commons is his European contributions. We wouldn't have got to the last 16 without Sammy in 2012/13, his goals were huge.

And, like you said, Commons outburst and slagging of other players puts him below Sammy as well. At least Samaras was always respectful and never got into bother.

Sanaras was a guy like most of the fans I loved and still hold fondly, he gave us some great moments but again we can't go around thinking that alone makes someone a "club legend"

Just because they don't fit into that bracket shouldn't mean we start talking negatively about them either, the guy deserved to be remembered favourably in my view and the fact he didnt make the same impact as Tommy Burns or Tommy Gemmell is nothing to be ashamed of

Was just about to post the same thing.

Legend gets chucked about * nilly.

I'd describe Samaras as a 'cult hero'. There's a difference.

It was Commons who scored the goal to put us into the last 16.

Commons, quite rightly, got stuck into incompetent arseholes like Ambrose and the clueless Deila because he cared.

I'd much rather have that in our team that some wage-taker who just prances about the pitch nonchalantly.

Kris Commons will always be a favourite of mine. He had a huge impact when he joined and, barring one real off season, he has been consistently excellent for us.

If this is the end for him, so be it, but I'll always remember the big goals he scored for this club.

In that 'off season' by which you mean the season when he was often out of the team due to injury and suspension, he still managed to assist more goals than any other player at the club. That says a lot about Commons and his contribution.

The one where he was in and out the team due to injury and other personal circumstances. Took him a while to get going and he didn't score his first goal until a game against Rangers.

I think it was his 2nd season with us, the rumours of a bust up with Lenny were flying about, then he appeared in a neck brace to training to noise up the media, that was quality:giggle1:

I like Commons a lot more than Samaras, neither are legends. Wouldn't even call Sammy a cult hero either. The main memory of him is frustration.
