would be great if he gets some game time and goals at Hibs, so an english club come in for him for a low fee in January

    I'LL FIT RIGHT IN
Loan switch is perfect for me, Hibs and Celtic says Kris Commons

The midfielder believes Brendan Rodgers' tight training regime at Celtic is the perfect preparation to let him shine under Neil Lennon

But he reckons it’s Brendan Rodgers who has got him ready to play a key role in Hibernian’s promotion push.

Commons, 33, has agreed an emergency loan switch from Celtic and will make his bow against Morton tomorrow.

It’ll end eight months of frustration for the former Scotland star after failing to win a place in Rodgers’ first-team plans.

But he believes the Hoops gaffer’s tight training regime at Lennoxtown is the perfect preparation to let him shine under Lennon.

Commons told SunSport: “I haven’t played competitive football since April so it’s almost nine months now.

“I had a spell out after an epidural operation in my back in the last week in May.

“But since the first week in July I’ve been fit and healthy and itching to play.

“Since Brendan has come in the training has been really sharp so I’m feeling good.

“Who knows what’s going to happen in the future but short-term this is ideal for Hibs and for me.”

Not so long ago, the notion of Commons dropping into Scotland’s second tier would have prompted gasps of disbelief.

He has won five top-flight titles, two Scottish Cups and one League Cup in six success-strewn seasons at Parkhead.

He was honoured as Player of the Year three seasons ago after 30-plus goals in Lennon’s final season in Paradise.

Now he’s just glad that his former gaffer has asked him to fill the void left by injuries to Easter Road mainstays John McGinn, Dylan McGeouch and Fraser Fyvie.

Commons said: “It’s an emergency loan deal until mid-January so it works out at around six games I can play. It’s just time for me to get the boots back on again.

“I obviously know Neil very well so when he offered me this chance I jumped at it.

“I’ve been training hard at Celtic and feel fit and ready to go.

“My match sharpness may not be 100 per cent so there may be a few rusty touches here and there. But I’m going to give it my all and hopefully help the team get some wins.”

Commons, who has six months left on his Celtic contract, travelled to Edinburgh today to train with his new team-mates. Under SPFL rules, an emergency loan deal can only last for a maximum of 93 days.

Following that period, Hibernian could opt to sign Commons on a regular loan deal or a permanent transfer in January.

But the former Stoke, Nottingham Forest and Derby star refuses to look beyond tomorrow’s 5.15pm kick off at Cappielow and playing a part in Hibs’ promotion push.

He said: “I can’t wait to get out there because it feels like a long time since I’ve played a competitive game.

“No footballer likes that. No footballer wants to be doing extra sessions when everyone else has gone home. The best thing about being at Celtic is playing for the team in front of the supporters.

“But at this stage of my career I want to play as much as possible so it’s time to get the boots back on again.

“I trained with the Hibs boys this morning — and that was important ahead of the game.

“Hibs have some important fixtures coming up so hopefully I can make an impact.

“It has come about very quickly, but I think it makes sense on both parts. I can try to get some football under my belt and give Hibs a helping hand as well.

“As much as I am trying to help Hibs, the club are trying to help me out a lot, so I’m grateful to them for giving me the opportunity to play football.

“I’m also thoroughly looking forward to hopefully helping them on the way and putting on the jersey and doing my best.”

Lennon’s side are locked in a title fight with Dundee United, who are keen to land Nadir Ciftci on a similar deal from Celts.

United could go top if Ray McKinnon wins on his return to Raith Rovers this afternoon — with Hibs then needing to do likewise in Greenock.

Lennon last night confirmed the initial deal will last until January 15 and insisted he has high hopes for Commons now they have been reunited.

The Hibs boss said: “Kris is an experienced, technically gifted player, so him coming in at this time is of benefit to the side as the games start coming in over the festive period.

“With us missing a lot of our regular midfielders, it is good to bring in someone with a lot to offer, even just on a short-term basis.”

I love Kris as a player and servant to the club and I'd love to meet him as he seems really passionate about Celtic. Best of luck mate. Shame Brendan does not fancy you.

    Some woman that..

    Bit teary reading that myself..

Wish them all the best and have no doubt he'll continue his loan beyond January as his family are settled here and he's familiar with the coaching staff etc. A guy who was our best source of goals in the Europa last year, and who still scored some lovely goals in the league for us till he fell out the picture again under Ronny..

Double session's and training under Brendan's new regime all season, so should be in good nick. Just lacking a touch of match sharpness, which I think he'd still get away with against your Mortons and Raith Rover's, nevermind St Mirren's and Dunfermline's..

I've absolutely no doubt that whilst his time was definitely up here, that signing will seal Hibs promotion. He could slot in to a diet, or sheep team with absolute ease just now. They should look forward to some screamers and Commons with the shackles off with probably everything going through him..

He'll do much better than Stokes did at Hibs overall..

I don't get that at all, she's only saying how much she loves the club and fans, hardly sounds like someone died, more the opposite, it is a very positive statement from her.

Stokes dragged them to their first Scottish Cup win in donkeys years, I'd like to think Commons won't be able to do that.

Stokes goes down as a legend, despite the relatively low goal return.
