He certainly wasn't the flying winger/rightback that Ronny wanted him to be.

Definitely but we've also seen games like that where he has made the difference.

I'm not saying he should be starting btw, just that it's not outwith the realms of possibility that Commons can turn a dominant, sitter ladden 2-2 into a 3-2.

I agree. It's not like we won every game we dominated with Commons in the side.

I'd agree in the fact that I'd like to see him on the bench more often. Unsure what the script is in regards to his fitness, I'd imagine he is miles behind.

I'd have him on as an option at ST/CF before Ciftci, personally. If we were chasing a goal.

And what about the time's he was virtually up top with Griffiths in a 2?

Certainly wasn't the striker Ronny wanted him to be either..

Aye, Ronny had a habit of wanting him to be anything that wasn't his actual position :56:

A player that can't adapt. That explains a lot, and even more so with Brendan..

Regardless, Commons didn't help himself with his domestic performances. His first touch was often terrible, he was greedy, slow as * and particularly last season his shooting left a lot to be desired.

I think that's a tad harsh considering he player who has the jersey Commons wants isn't exactly known for his versatility :smiley-laughing002:

He adapted well enough from a winger into an attacking midfielder for me. I don't think you need to take a player out there natural position in some misguided attempt to paint yourself as a tactical genius of a manager. Which Brendan knows right enough.

He's not in because he's aging and he can't press as well. Brendan's forgiven Rogic for that and trying to work on it becauae Rogic is young and talented. Commons is older and talented but is being put out to pasture.

I think one thing we can all agree is that Rogic is the better player(or atleast well on his way to becoming) and deserves to start.

Deserve's a start at the moment, needs to step up majorly in Europe for me though.

Don't think he's had a good game in Europe yet. With his technique, if he plays to his level we could go up a level. Especially with having Sinclair able to do the same, Roberts and Forrests resurgance around it.

Maybe but a supporting striker/front man isn't exactly sticking him in at right back. He's basically a front man every time we go forward, or was :fear:

    So you admit he's surplus?

I think he's struggled with inconsistencies, understandably. But I feel like this season he's been terrific in most games he's started. Unfortunately I'm not sure this seasons group is going to be the platform for him, or any of our players, to really flourish

We'll see though, I obviously hope I'm wrong on that.

Seems to be, doesn't mean I don't think he could still make an impact on the team if given a chance.

If ever there's a time to step up and cement yourself as a good player, this groups the time to do. I've witnessed players like Stephen Pearson doing it, a man who is far less talented than Tom Rogic.

As I said I hope I'm wrong, but I'm * feart of this group and our visit to the Nou Camp did nothing to change that :smiley-laughing002:

Lets hope the team, including Rogic, put in a good performance on wednesday. :50:

I don't doubt that he could chip in with a few goals here and there, but even Christie has at McDiarmid Park to kill the game, and helped change the Alloa game. You then factor in that Roberts will be on the bench until he recaptures form after injury, and the Dembele/Griff dilemma, then he's way way down the list of go too guy's.....even from the bench..

Definitely mate, such a * terror of a group for a team that's just starting to gel together (no matter how well we are doing)

I'm a massive fan of Tom Rogic but that's his next step, he absolutely has it in hom to be as vital for us in Europe as Commons was last year. That's his next step.

His first season when he was linking up well with Stokesy an Hooper and the season he played as striker he was invaluable to us. But apart from.that I've never been his biggest fan, to compare him to Lubo or even Naka is daft, he's not on their level and never has been.

Scored more and assisted more but the quality in Scotland was slightly better, even more so in Lubos time here. Good servant to our club and I'll always fondly remember him but no in the same sense as Lubo and Naka.
