What I don't understand is people want Bitton in midfield. A * bag who will be lucky to score 10 this year. Then we have commons. Easily bang 20 in and assist as many. Yet he's 33 some old magical number and people want rid. The stats for the Europa easily show he was our best player. If our defence had some gaffa tap to stop the leaks we'd have easily got out the group.

You could see it every time ronny used him our attacks slowed right down, he would get the ball and it bogged the move down....I dont think he is the player that got 30 in a season anymore...be lucky if he got into double figures....imo.

Think that's a bit mental. He scored 9 last season playing out of position and hardly in the team.

What makes you think if he was playing in the right position and all the time that he's not capable of one more?

Showed in Europe last season he's still our biggest threat. Would be daft to get rid of that.

Have to say, apologetically I was hoping for Commons to come off the bench versus Red Imps. Kind of guy who needs a half chance and can belt it in.

In reality, can imagine he's a higher earner and will be behind a number of players in pecking order.

It's sad the way it seems to be ending for him here, deserved a much better send off than the way it's panning out.

Only 9 goals short of a century for the club as well.

"Greater application" - what does this even mean? Are you suggesting he gives short of 100% to the cause?
I just dont buy this idea of weight problems. Its never been publicised and its never affected his game. Every player needs games to get up to speed. Its called pre season.
Funny how selective your memory is. I remember him coming back into the team after being dropped and then scoring a terrific acrobatic volley vs dundee utd.
Id suggest your getting upto speed issue has affected, and still applies to nearly all the team. See the game vs the imps, vs the icelandic team,
Karagandy or legia. Your making it up as you go along.
Guy is pushing 33 now? Theres more basis to suggest his age is becoming an issue, nevermind his weight.

I think he fits into Burton Albion. :50:

Seriously though you're right, there's absolutely zero place for him going forward we don't have luxury of playing him as a number 10 and Brendan certainly wouldn't want him to be one of his wingers. I don't think Brendan even sees him as a game-changer at this moment.

The only position I'd consider playing him is in the 10. But if we do play with one then he wouldn't be my first pick, that's for sure

I'd have had him on the left ahead of Christie against the Gibraltan mob anyway. Even if I'd have preferred him behind the strikers, Griffiths and Dembele in the middle.

He's one of the only guys in our team proven at European level, I don't see where we are so swimming in those types of players that we can so easily cast aside.

Ends up with a bunch of promising players getting soundly beat off of a Gibraltan mob until they get up to speed.

I meant if he was fully fit mate, in general, he's one of the best options we have. Especially in Europe.

I hope the others can stand up and provide what he does if he is to be cast aside.

Thankfully he has never used pace during his career, and his best moments come from finding that pocket of space around the edge of the box, but alas when up against teams parking the bus and not giving us any space, he becomes a dead body almost.
His defensive ability is pretty much none existent (just the type of player he is) and adds very little when he can't find those spaces. To the point he gets frustrated at himself and others and becomes greedy.

Rather not play him in games we are playing against that sort of team and if he stays here, then use him appropriately in the groups where teams are a bit more open against us.

Was the same with sammy, best days was in Europe where teams opened up and let us play football.

Always thought that was when we needed him most, when he'd smash something in like he did Karagandy. Sometimes we just can't break teams down, he's usually one who can when he's on.

Even Qarabag, we couldn't break them down. He came on, put the corner in that won the game. He is one of our big moment players. Have we got another one in the squad?

Maybe would have played him in that case but only because we need to invest in a left winger. Commons doesn't have the pace to play wide anymore. He has never been rapid but he used to be quicker than he is now. I wouldn't play him behind the striker because as I've said many times, I'd despair if we were playing a 30 odd year old, inconsistent(his overall play has been hit and miss for a while now) Commons, over the likes of Rogic or Christie.

Commons isn't going to get any better. Those players probably will and they need games to get there.
