He's been pish in the league - our bread and butter.

    Amazing.

Honestly don't know what people are watching at times. What has Commons done domestically this season that warrants him getting a free role in the team? As I've said, Rogic has been far better...yet you'd have Commons in ahead of him?

Living off his past. Seriously. If we had just signed him even last season, he'd just be another average player. Not this world beater that some make him out to be.

I think a lot of it comes down to what type of player you like really.

That KDS post hit the nail on the head for me. Commons has been very average/poor for the best part of 2, possibly 3 seasons now. His stats are great but some of you are blinded by them.

I'm assuming you specifically said domestically because you want to ignore the fact he was directly involved in nearly every single goal in Europe this season ?

He's been played out wide most of the time domestically. You can't be serious with Rogic. Fair enough wanting better than Commons for behind the striker but Rogic isn't the answer.

The whole 'commons is done' argument is void imo, as he cannot get a run of 4-5 games in his position. So we can't judge him.
Put Rogic out on the wing, and see how he does, or put johansen back out there, we all know how that goes.

If, (and it's a huge if) dumb dumb played him in the no10 role, I have no doubts he'd score more, the team would score more, create more. And more importantly be far more threatening. But we'll never know. Cheers Ronny.

Utter pish that he was playing on the wing yesterday - that may have been where he was SUPPOSED to play, but he was always in the middle; in first half the only width we had was coming from Tierney and when he got injured we had absolutely none. Ronnie made a solid tactical change pulling Commons for Roberts to get some width back (although Roberts himself didn't make a great impact - but at least he was out there wide)

Commons has scored some great & valuable goals for Celtic but, sorry, right now he does not deserve a place in the starting line-up on his form, with the other options we have. I would not say 'he's done' on the strength (or should that be weakness) of a couple of poor performances, but it definitely does not merit his continued inclusion currently.

He was rotten again on Saturday, as were the whole midfield to be honest. The post from KDS is one I agree with, and something I've said for a while as well. Commons has to be scoring goals, or he doesn't have a big impact on the game in my opinion.

Still think he has a lot to offer us for another season or 2 maybe.

Agreed. Some people going way over the top in stating his 'decline'. For a start Commons has never had pace, he's always relied on other attributes to be successful & it stands to reason that a guy that has scored that volume of goals might be a wee bit blinkered in & around the penalty area, look at Griffiths for example. He's out of form, being played in a wider role which doesn't suit him and has been hampered by injury. I have no doubts that he still has a load of goals left in him & played in his preferred position he would be a lot more influential. Going forward though I think he should be used more from the bench with his starts coming in home games & cup games etc.

Have to agree with Boyd on this one. He's gave us good memories, had a great record for us, and I'm eternally grateful for that but more often than not, over his Celtic career he's been an empty Jersey who pops up with the goods.

While that's all well and good that he's producing goals and assists, we need players who contribute to the game as a whole. Don't see what's hard to see about the situation really, it's been like this for a while.

Commons hasn't had a great season but he's still chipped in with 9 goals and 12 assists, 4 of those goals being in Europe...

    Shows he still has value.

He's still vital in the regard that he chips in with goals and assists, someone else really needs to step up in that regard. Of course Rogic and McGregor seem to be both capable of get around 10 goals a season and a few assists to go along with it. Then you have to look at someone like GMS, at his age in his position you'd expect 10+ goals a season especially in the system that we play.

I'd be happy if GMS could get 10 games a season ffs :smiley-laughing002:
Seems one of those fragile types of players.
We have GMS, Forrest, Rogic, Lustig, Brown, Simunovic ... All seem the 'fragile' kind, always injured. Go in for a tackle and you're * it incase they're out for 3 months.

This is true, wonder if it's just the players personally being injury prone or if there's a deeper underlying issue at the club itself.

People don't think the season he scored 32 goals and set up 14 he was good? Seriously man?

That's pretty * bizarre to me.

He had a very good season, mainly because of the number of goals he got in my opinion. One game that season in particular that sums Commons up a lot of the time was Kilmarnock away though. He was the worst player on the park by a country mile, then 20 minutes later he had scored a hat-trick, and probably received man of the match :smiley-laughing002:

He won the league for us that season. Time & time again he would rescue us when matches weren't going our way. Even if he hadn't been having a particularly good game until his goal(s).

The thing is mate, if the two strikes he has find the back of the net, his overall performance would have been overlooked, which can often be the case with Commons I think.

Definitely, which is hard to argue with but he's not really bringing that to the table either..

Running on to the ball first half when he'd been slipped in and his legs were frighteningly heavy and he tried to lay off Griffiths and put the ball out of play. It was woeful. His first strike was * when usually he is better lacing them and the second when he was baring down on the box and coulda let it run across him or had a touch, he just bounced it straight in to MacDonald's arm's..

His corners were mostly brutal as well and I was screaming for him to go off..
