Kris Commons

  1. Nah the wee man has consistently been one of our best players since he arrived. Sadly looks like he's on his way down, but he's been a great signing and ambassador for us.

  2. He shouldn't be written off yet, wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if he's the match winner against the manks.

  3. Fact is though he makes us worse when he's playing, could very well score the winning goal against the huns but he'll still pay * for the majority of the game.

  4. And who would give a *? Not one single Celtic fan.

  5. Unfortunately he has become a passenger in the team during the second half of this season . I think it's time to let him go as he has certainly lost his mojo .

  6. We probably wouldn't need him to score a winner though if he wasn't playing, that's the point.

  7. Better to be used as an impact sub, he's * by half time having to track back, he's then too tired to do anything on the ball.

  8. He's not long back from injury. He'll return to form soon enough.

  9. He's brutal at the moment should not be starting or even getting on before some subs

  10. I totally agree but he is so slow on the ball, on the turn and running off the ball. He's very much and understandably a player in decline and for me, shouldn't be starting..

  11. Taken from KDS:

This is exactly how I've felt about him for a few years now. His performances of late aren't too different to how he's played the majority of the time he's been here. He just used to pop up with a goal from nowhere and suddenly it was "Commons played well today, he scored."

Sorry but that's not how it works. His first touch is * awful most of the time. The number of times he sticks his * out to win a foul rather than take the ball and beat a player is ridiculous. He's greedy. Nowadays, he's lucky if one of his shots works the 'keeper. He's always been as slow as a week in the jail, but he's getting even slower.

Of course he's still capable of the odd moment of sheer class. But how often have we seen that in the league this season? Rarely. Very rarely. He should not be starting ahead of Rogic or Roberts at this moment in time. And if we're trying to build a team, starting Kris Commons whilst Scott Allan and Ryan Christie don't even make the bench...well that's just * ludicrous.

He's been a good servant and given us plenty of great memories but the constant talking him up and acting as if he is our best player is getting really old. Saw someone saying that Scott Brown right now is like Gerrard a couple of seasons ago - only starting because of his reputation rather than his performances. Well, you can add Commons to that as well.

  12. Said it before, he is greedy, selfish and when it isnt working for him he is a huffy * and can bring the team down.

Too often when he starts it seema to be all about him, holds on to the ball too long, looking for a shot at goal over a simple pass to create space.

I mind scepovic season, he was terrible for letting the lad move in to space, then blatently ignoring him. Snapping at shots and seeing them wide.

Great in moments, and more so coming off the bench when we need someone to take a bit of control and that sort of selfishness. But playing a whole game with a guy like that, awful.

Same can be Said of Griffiths at times, when he is a game or two without a goal, you see the same sort of frustration, greed and selfishness come through. Thankfully with Griffiths it passes as soon as he gets a goal and is a better team player.

  13. Sell this guy please, way past it and overweight.

  14. 175 Starts
    91 goals
    71 assists

Scored that peno vs Spartak to take us though to last 16, scored vs Shakhatar Kagary to start the come back, scored numerous times vs Huns including one on his debut against them and a number of other important goals. If you think that's poor and he has played poor throughout most his Celtic career I think your wrong and the stats say your wrong.

There has been times where he has been frustrating and will shoot instead of passing or he will hold onto the ball too long or that one season where he was fat as * but to say though out his time at us he has been majorly poor is laughable.

You go find another midfielder with his goals to game ratio and number of assists that Commons has got for us and then get him at 300k not to mention outside of football his charity work ect and then ask him to get that sort of record, you wont with our budget.

Up until this season and his second season where he still got 12 assists but only 1 goal he has been our biggest threat by miles and has been in a few games earlier on this season. We have had no other player in the last 5 years who can pick the ball up from range and score goals like he can or finish like he can near the penalty box aside from the strikers (Hooper, Stokes, Griffo).
Surly the fact he pops up with goals and assists is the whole reason he is in the team? What's the point of him playing well but then not scoring or assisting? There is none. While I fully disagree with your point that he for the majority of his time here he has been poor, even if you where right and he had been totally * for last 5 seasons I really couldn't give a flying * his stats speak for them self's so he has justified his place in the team.

Now this season I agree he has been poor and is starting to look like he is on the decline and I wouldn't have him anywhere near the starting line up over someone like Allan or Christie, but he is still the only player in the team who has the ability to ping one from 25+ yards and win us a match bar maybe Bitton and now Rogic but neither have done it on a consistent level like Commons and is still when on his game our most potent threat and his statistics back this up.

  15. Spartak, not Benfica :50:

Swear down I sat and thought about that for about 5 min and still went with Benfica :31:

    Cheers man :50:

  16. I said in my post he's given us plenty of great memories, and they all happened quite some time ago.

You seem to be missing my entire point. His scoring record is impressive yes, mainly thanks to his first 6 months and the season where he essentially played as a striker. Since then, his scoring record is nothing out of the ordinary. 10 league goals last season, that's what any decent attacking midfielder should be getting for us. 4 so far this season, not great. My point is, when he doesn't score he offers * all. He slows everything down, shoots when he should pass and even what used to be his best skill - shooting from outside the box - is ordinary now. When he does hit the target, it's usually straight at the 'keeper.

Look at Johansen when he was in that great run of form playing behind the striker. Even Rogic at times this season. They have far more creativity than Commons. They don't slow the play down like Commons does. They can beat a player, they chase the ball down etc.

The second part I've put in bold is just silly. Just because you score or assist a goal, that doesn't mean you had a better game than someone who did neither. A player can play a big part in a goal without registering an assist. If a player beats 3 opponents, passes the ball to a full back who then crosses the ball for the striker to score - the original player played a huge part in the goal. Don't you agree?

Rogic has been miles better than Commons this season. Not only has he contributed plenty of goals/assists, he's produced some top quality all round performances. The same can't be said for Commons.

  17. So your telling me based on your entire point that in games that Commons hasn't scored or assisted most of time he's done * all? I think your talking crap tbh mate.

You cant sit there and tell me that aside from this season, if he hasn't scored or assisted in the game he hasn't been a threat in that match? In previous seasons Commons has been our main threat he always played positively saw the pass that no one else saw, made the run no one else would, he has been our most intelligent player we have had in last 5 years.

Also last season he only started 11 games, 10 goals in 11 starts is well above what an attacking midfielder should be getting...

I don't know why your going on about him being dropped this season but as I put in my post multiple times I agree I wouldn't have him in my starting 11 this season.

I agree with if a player runs around 3 players passes it in for a goal or an easy assist ect has played a big part in the goal but how on earth you can put that a guy with a goal ratio of better than 1 per 2 games as majorly poor player during his time here doesn't make any sense? Your missing the point of football which is to win and to win you need people who score goals, Commons has scored numerous goals for us has not? Commons has assisted goals for us has he not? What other Celtic player has a better goals and assist ratio for us in the past 10 years other than Commons? I really don't care if he plays * if he's banging the ball into the net or setting someone up the best players in the world have times where for 70 min they do * all and then pop up with a goal but ill be honest the fact you think over the past few years that Commons hasn't been some sort of threat in most games is somewhat strange considering I believe he has been our biggest threat.

  18. Seems like people have pretty short memories - literally a few months back he was the only player in the team making any significant contributions in Europe. What I would say is that playing him on the wing in a 4-4-2 really isn't going to bring out the best in him given the extra burden defensively on the wide men and the requirement to provide service to our strikers. Literally makes no sense to have one of our best players in and around the final third stuck out on the wing, can get away with it with a one striker system but he ain't gonna be as effective if we set up as we did against Killie

  19. This. He'd have a free role in my team. Mental how people are writing him off. He's still the only attacking midfielder I'd particularly care about keeping.
