Commons scored a penalty in the last few mins to put us through to the last 16 then took a brutal tackle in the last few mins just to protect the ball to get us through.

Was pished last night and talking *, I'll try and attempt what I was getting at though :icon_mrgreen:

Scored more and set up more. Naka scored to get us through to the last 16, so has Commons. Lubo in particular had some absolute stomping games in Europe, where he just bossed it but he didn't do it many times. Did he get a European goal?

Naka done well but didn't have as much of an effect on the game as him.

Both far superior players to Commons but Commons gets the business done.

You can't even put Commons in the same sentence as Lubo, no matter how many goals he did or did not score. Have a look at Zidane's European record then have a look at Doumbia's.

Doumbia is a striker, different positions. Naka, Lubo and Commons all have the same job. Like I said, superior players but Commons does have a knack of getting the job done.

He's really stepped up to the plate in Europe this season as well, I'd be embarassed to see where we'd be without him. We were completely toothless, outside of Kieran Tierney, when he went off last night.

Look at Doumbia and Henrik Larsson then, point remains.

Commons does not deserve to ever be mentioned in the same breath as Lubo.

What's your point with Doumbia btw?

Take Lubo out of it then, since you're just * about them being compared instead of refuting any points I've brought up.What about Naka?

My point with Doumbia is statistically he is more proficient in Europe than Messi and Ronaldo. Stats can be a load of * without context.

Technically Naka is on a different level but I don't have an issue with him being compared to Commons. Mainly because I don't put Naka on the pedestal many others do because I watched him disappear many, many times in a Celtic strip.

Yeah it doesn't feel comfortable saying Commons was better than Lubo at any level. I know you're not saying he was a better player but surely he was a better playmaker in Europe even if he didn't score?

What's the difference between Doumbia and Larsson's stats? How would you even find out someone's European Stats? * there are 5 Doumbia footballers on Wikipedia. What's his first name?

Without playing anywhere near the same number of games. Lubo, Naka and Commons all have played a similar amount, for the same club and can be compared. Like I've said, Lubo is a far, far superior player but it speaks to how well Commons has done that he's managed to have an effect like he has on the big stage for us.

Doumbia must've played a lot less games than Messi and Ronaldo then.

I'm not saying Commons is a better player than him mate. Just he's done more in the Hoops for us in Europe.

By the time we were in Europe Lubo had to be used very carefully, he was tiring in games, he was 35. He still put in some displays that I've not seen better than in the Hoops - mainly, Juventus. That kind of performance Commons will never be able to match. Not anywhere close.

About 90 odd less games. He has 13 in 20.

Lubo and Naka were far superior players, that's unarguable for me; but let's not underestimate what Commons gives us. No less a person that Billy McNeill compared him to Lubo a few years ago. He consistently gets goals and assists in the big games at every level, including the CL, who else on our team can say that?

Cheers for that stat. It's a good one for his grand weans, "I'm better than Messi and Ronaldo"

Commons is our main player for sure, he creates way more situations than anyone else. Like Bitton's goal against Ajax, that was a Lubo esque pass from Commons. I really hope he isn't injured for the last two EL games.
