I think they were just tired. Three games in six days and another one coming up on Saturday. No one can perform consistently with that kind of schedule.

I think it's something we see when Broony isn't playing. A lack of urgency in midfield.

Of course you do get those performances with him as well but it seems to be worse when he doesn't play.

I can't remember that ever being the case to be honest. I might be wrong, but I don't recall anyone wanting Scepovic to play ahead of Griffiths, and if they were, they can't have been basing it on anything they had seen on the pitch from Scepovic. It's different with Rogic though, as he has shown that he is capable of playing in the starting X1 for us. He was given a chance to impress last night when he come on, and he did so, yet again. Great sub by Deila, and it totally changed the game.

I think Brown is guilty of slowing the play down when he has it as well. He should never be used like he was in Molde, acting almost as a playmaker, that's for sure. He isn't good enough for that.

Possibly, but we seemed to move it quicker as the second half went on. What I'm getting at though, is that all of our midfielders have to take responsibility for moving the ball sharper. Not just last night, all the time.

I don't think it's using him like one, just he's the guy who tries to step up to the plate when the others aren't doing it. Last half hour when Bitton started taking a bit of responsibility he stopped it.

I don't think he slows the play down at all, I think he drives it forward.

I wouldn't say Brown slowed the play down. He has an energy and drive about him. I still stick by what I previously said about him though. As much as he's a great player for us, I think with the current midfield players we have, he's not missed as much when he's not playing.

I disagree. He can drive us forward by carrying it like against Fenerbahce. However, in terms of playing quick passes, and accurate ones for that matter, I feel he struggles.

That doesn't necessarily mean he doesn't slow the game down though. He struggles to make quick forward passes in my opinion.

Funny what people see, I really think the complete opposite. One of very few in the team that isn't afraid of trying an early pass uptop.

Fair enough mate. The thing is, I like Brown & Bitton, and I think they work well together. However, I think we miss a creative spark as well. That's why I said last week I wouldn't be against seeing Armstrong played in the middle of the park. He could go box to box, and he is more creative than both Brown & Bitton. Who I would drop out the two for him though, I've not a clue :smiley-laughing002:

Commons slows the play down is one of those buzz phrases that doesnt really mean anything. The truth is that he is one of the few players in our squad that has the vision to split a defense in an instant. He is a master at taking a quick free kick and he is as good in open play doing the same. He has an odd body shape and is not the fastest but he doesnt need to be fast when his speed of thought is miles ahead of anyone in Scotland some of our own players included. His guile has been proven as being good enough in Europe. I dont see what more he can do to get the praise he deserves. He is a top player and I bet ye now when he leaves we will not get a better replacement into the club.

Good dilemma to have for sure. I would like to see us try

    Brown
    Biton Rogic Armstrong
    Commons

But not having Biton or Arstrong as wide players, but a central 3 with commons pushed up behind Griff and brown covering the defence. I think it would give us a lot of creativity in the middle.

Same as Rogic, inconsistent in game to game. Each player suits different games as well.

While on the subject of Brown we don't miss him on games like that last night, on the big occasion and Europe we would. Johansen is a better passer than Brown and also has good ability to pick out hard balls over the top or through defences but his downfall is trying to do that too much. Also think he tries to be like Brown, in covering a lot of area and tackling but his tackling and positional awareness is not near as good as Browns.

He's just missing the final pass sometimes, which must be helluva frustrating thing for everyone. If he starts to notice that, he could have a great season in terms of assists.
The problem is he's scored so many amazing goals from range, but right now if he'd go looking for assists, i'm sure we'd get more goals and stop being sloppy when the chances come around.
