Guess Efe marked their players out too I'm guessing?

    So Efe, should have played.

And how did he mark 2 players at once?

Sorry, guy couldn't defend to save himself.

He may have done then, but then again Izzy and Efe played too and must've done just as good a job, actually was Lustig not with us, so I don't believe Matthews would have played both games unless Lustig was as usual injured.

Nah, Efe had a fantastic game with loads of protection. Lenny left the wings free and said we just need to learn that we can't always double up on a winger in Europe.

If you remember the game, Sanchez started there and then got taken off, Messi moved there afterwords. 2 players up against him over the course of 90 minutes.

Izzy didn't play, Matthews was left back.

Did you not watch the Barca game?:97:

There's no say in it by either... if the player/his agent wants the move it'll happen. all the others can do is limit the speed of the move occurring, we don't have the money to outspend rivals, or means to punish rebels in the squad

On players worth £2m odds I think it'd be a lot.

With players approaching £4m above I'd say very, very small amount.

So your talking about 1 game in particular, guess I make my point then?

Was Izzy not meant to have been brilliant in Carrierbag (I never saw game, was in Croatia at time). So why drop him?

Efe played in 2 spirited displays against Barca back then, why not him right back?

No, it doesn't. It's just the one game I picked out because it was against the best player the world has ever seen.

What's his mistakes then? When did he let us down at that level? When did he not defend properly?

Guess he wasn't too great in the 6-1 game.

Just a stab in the dark guess though.

Anyways, we ain't gonna agree on this, so best leavin it at that.

Matthews is and will always be *, that's why he'll be in the Championship next year. If their right back is superbad, we'll see how he gets on.

Aye, he wasn't but have you got any examples of his defending letting us down? Surely if he was that bad you would have?

Yeah I'll maybe find them and post them on the Adam Matthews thread though.

Ambrose would have made zero difference. Absolutely zero.

For what it's worth, I felt Janko was one of our better performers.

This is so true. His defending was never great, but in recent seasons it declined massively. One great display vs Barca is all I can remember, and the whole team was incredible that night.

Matthews was a good servant to the club, people have short memorys. would we be critizing him if we beat malmo?

Malmo were far more dangerous as the goals they scored and pressure they applied is testament...

Malmo was a far more intimidating place to go and they actually beat us with a bit to spare..

We need to wake up to the level we are at...and give Malmo the credit they deserve as well as criticising our own failings..

We should have beat them but didn't they have qualified two seasons in a row we haven't.. They are better than us and are certainly better then Qarabag..

Need to also bear in mind that Malmo are halfway through their season, and up to full speed. Qarabag hadn't began their domestic campaign either when we faced them. That plays a massive part, as we know. I wouldn't say they beat us with a bit to spare. If truth be told, we really should have had the tie wrapped up at Parkhead. Our own mistakes let them into the game, and they grew in confidence, but up until Brown's mistake, we were dominating the game, and looked likely to get a 3rd, which in my opinion, would have killed off the tie. We lost the tie at Parkhead in my opinion.

Agree with this to an extent, if Johansen had scored to make it three we would have went on to score a fourth.. But they scored two away goals which gave them the advantage in the tie..and they deserve credit for that.

Malmo were a different side though in the second leg and were at full strength and it's sad to say they out thought us and fought us.

Qarabag in Baku was more comfortable as we kept a clean sheet at home.

The last minute goal in the first leg changed everything and we all knew it at the time..with a bit to spare I mean even if we had scored we would have still exited, not that they were so much better than us..

So if Ambrose is on the line as opposed to Boyata, he scores an own goal as well? What Ronny should have known, and Lenny would have matched it up, was it was likely to be a classic sort of British style game, with a high ball, a knock down and a cross. Ambrose is way more experienced than both Boyata and Janko. Change the system back to how Lenny played and Ambrose is fine. He's a defender and not a wing back, so you need cover in right midfield and with Janko we had that because he also plays right midfield. Less running as well.

First game back, 2 assists.. thought he played well overall.

Our most creative player, needs to be starting regularly.

Awesome. Why he isn't a stick on for the first eleven, and a challenger for captaincy is beyond me.
