If Kris Commons repeats what he did in his first 5 months i will be more than happy. First game back, hes left footed playing right mid, which doesnt always work for players. He didnt look comfortable but he took one for the team. Hes far better in the free roaming wide left role. Thought Ledley played well yesterday and ki and Kayal were superb. Good competition in midfield so they know they have to perform

Yes, last season! He was great last season, my point is based on what I have seen so far in the friendlies and yesterday! Also, I'm not saying anything about what his best position is, I'm talking about his fitness in that he looks lethargic!

One bad game when he's played out of position and everyone is on his back.

just shows that any one of our players are 90 minutes away from getting slagged to * by somecunt on here.

This is far from a dilemma

Can't believe anyone would seriously drop Commons after one average game played out of position.

He's a goal threat simple as that, we need him in the team for that reason alone, when was the last time we had a midfielder score as many goals as he did over a full season nevermind half one.

Haha, good one. Let's drop our top scoring midfielder from last season.
I'm sure if he was playing in the correct position he would've been better.

My one issue about Commons is he is basically just a guy with a great dig on him. His whole game is that dig IMO. Otherwise he is not great at all. Not trying to do down the value of having a * of a dig and the goals that brings but in many ways he is otherwise a very limited player.

I think he reads the game very well and is capable of putting in a very good delivery, he also has an old style no nonsense approach which i quite like, he dosen't have the trickery of a McGeady but he is a vital part of the team and has produced the goods since he arrived at CP.

OK, let's see - one of our most valuable players of last season looks a bit sluggish in his first competitive game back, when he is being played out of position on the wrong side of the field.

Solution: play him in his right position and give him some more matches to get him match fit?
Er no, drop him, and thus prevent him getting the matches he needs. :56:

I agree, however, that it would be crazy to drop our Man of the Match, Ki.

The solution is simple: play Commons wide left where he is best, play Ledley middle left, where he is best - and in the right half of the pitch, Kayal and Ki.

What's that you say - someone missing there? Yes, there is indeed - drop the Clown. :50:

Both Kayal and Ki would be wasted on the right.

Kayal normally plays to the right side of the pitch when he partners Ledley, as Ledley is left footed.

I mean the wing, not right centre.

I think either of them could fill the Brown role, i.e. playing wider right but not as a conventional winger.
They're certainly both far superior players.

Of course all this is presuming we continue 4-4-2.

    Ideally, I'd like to see a flexible 4-3-3 / 4-5-1 formation:

    Hooper

    -Commons ---------------------- Forrest/Stokes

    Ledley--------------Ki----

    Kayal

Kayal has to play in the centre. There's no way we can afford to play such a key player out of position. Ki just doesn't suit that role at all. He doesn't have the mobility of Brown and he wouldn't be able to utilise his passing skills. I think Brown does an excellent job in that role and my midfiled would be:

    Brown------Kayal-------Ki-------Commons

I do like your formation though.
