I think he had a rough game, but this is not slagging him, it just highlights that we need to remember he is still very young and inexperienced, he will learn.

I agree he didn't have his best game, but when the opposition has almost 80% of the possession and are constantly probing down the wings and switching it across the park like tonight, it's easy to highlight and mistakes the FBs make. They had a tough night of it.
Compare his performance to Janko's though and he comes out with a pass mark.

Could possibly be faulted for the 1st goal but that might be harsh. At the same time if Efe had done the exact same thing I guarantee he'd be getting slated on here for it. (not a dig at Tierney, more just highlighting the amount of leeway he has rightfully earned with the supporters)

He was awful last night , off his post for first goal and defended terribly all night creating major panic as he hoofed it every time the ball came to him. Also played a major part in the 2nd goal , his jobs to prevent the crosses coming in not allow them to happen.

He doesn't get a pass from me because he's a talent , after that get Izzy in next away tie for his experience.

Would be extremely harsh to drop him. Wasn't his best night but gave his all.

And how is Tierney meant to get experience if he isn't played? If we want him better prepared for next season's CL qualifiers he needs the experience from this season, and he won't get that playing in the spfl.

‘MADNESS’ was the one word Kieran Tierney used to describe Tuesday night’s qualification to the UEFA Champions League group stages following a rollercoaster night for the Bhoys in Israel.
For the first time in three seasons Celtic have made it past the play-offs and into the group phase, but it wasn’t exactly plain sailing for Brendan Rodgers’ team, who had to battle as their three-goal aggregate advantage over Hapoel Be’er Sheva was reduced to just one as they lost 2-0 at the Turner Stadium.
The result on the night mattered little for the Bhoys, however, who triumphed 5-4 overall on aggregate and have now secured their place in the lucrative and prestigious group stages of the competition at the first time of asking under their manager.
Afterwards, a delighted Tierney said there was a real sense of achievement among the squad.
“Madness, that’s all I can say to describe that,” Tierney said. “We’re through and that’s all that really matters.
“It was nervous for everybody and it must have been dreadful for the fans to watch the last half-hour but we’re through and that’s what matters. You’re obviously hoping for a better performance but at this stage you’d rather just get through than play well.
“It’s amazing. There are a lot of boys here who haven’t played in the Champions League yet so it’s big for us all and it’s an experience we are all looking forward to. Credit goes to everybody in the changing room and all the work that gets done behind the scenes for the players. It’s brilliant.”
Celtic were forced to defend for the majority of the match as a first-half goal from Be’er Sheva substitute Ben Sahar gave the home side the lead on the night before Ovidiu Hoban capitalised on a defensive mix-up in the Hoops box just three minutes into the second-half to put his team 2-0 up.
From then on it was backs to the walls for the Bhoys but they managed to hold on to their slender aggregate advantage and clinch their place in the UEFA Champions League alongside the cream of European football.
“The manager said to us we need to believe we deserve to be there,” Tierney added. “We’ve worked hard all pre-season and that’s the reward of us getting through now. It’s well-deserved.
“We were defending most of the second-half and they were just giving it everything with long balls everywhere. To go two down was disappointing but we’ve done enough to go through.
“I don’t mind who we get now but whoever we do get it’s going to be six hard games. It’s the best competition in club football so you’re never going to get an easy game. It’ll sink in when the draw is made and we see who we get. It’s just surreal just now and everyone is buzzing.”
Celtic’s progression to the group stages heralds a landmark moment in Tierney’s young career, which has seen him go from Academy prospect to first-team star over the course of a year.
The Hoops full-back was also a ball boy for the club while making his way through the Youth Academy, and witnessed some of the Bhoys’ biggest European nights first-hand from the touchline.
The 19-year-old now has the chance to take part in those massive events at Paradise under the floodlights as a player and he thanked Brendan Rodgers for putting his faith in him in the early months of his time as Celtic manager.
“Getting to the Champions League must be the top,” Tierney said of his time at Celtic so far. “As a 19-year-old it’s hard for me coming into situations like this as I only have experience of the Europa League, but to be in the Champions League at 19 and get the chance to play in all six games is a dream.
“The manager has been great with everybody, I’m grateful he’s playing me and hopefully I can continue to impress him and keep playing well.”

A tough game and for the majority we were under pressure. Despite this he persevered and maintained his dicipline. The CL will see him come on leaps and bounds and im sure he will rediscover the form displayed last season. Remarkable maturity and attitude for such a young player.

I wouldn't say he's been off the pace at all this season bar last night and even at that he wasn't stand out bad.

Actually can't see how he could be said to be underperforming this season. We were in awe of how good he was despite his age last season and now the initial shine has worn off some may be guilty of taking what he brings for granted but he's drove on from last season IMO, still beating his man, solid in the tackle, fully committed, reliable, never wasteful and if anything more confident on the ball as he showed at the weekend.

Heard someone call him "overrated" last night in a moment of spoiled, whiney pant-wetting because of the stress of the game. But even if this lad has a poor patch soon he's an outstanding talent and that won't change.

His consistency and reliability is mental for a kid his age and that shouldn't be overlooked. Possibly to his detriment when it come to expectations.

I've heard a couple people say he's over rated, nature of the beast I suppose.

For a teenager, he has been absolutely incredible for Celtic thus far.

He reminds me of Gary Neville. Solid player, tonnes of commitment but maybe not the best, technically.

Aye he isn't the best technically. He looks uncomfortable at times. But he's a brilliant player for us. Love him

I don't think that's the issue, he can beat players with skill and bomb forward, good left foot on him and great at defending. It's just when he gets the ball under pressure he keeps hoofing it away in a direction, it will come with experience and good coaching to just be calm at those times and look for the easy ball or option.

Depends what you mean by skill? I've seen him go past players but he often looks a bit 'clunky' when he's running with the ball t times.

I don't mind him clearing his lines, but he does it aimlessly quite often when he has more time. As you say, that can be coached out of him.

He's got so many great attributes for a boy of his age.

I know where Kieran is coming from.

For a full back though he has near enough everything you want. One major plus being his final ball.

I don't agree. He hoofed it quite a bit away to Beer Sheva but that was to be expected. He's usually quite calm and collected and picks out a safe pass before thinking about a hoof.

I'm not having a go at the kid. I think he's fantastic and he's been a revelation for us.

But we can't deny that he can still improve, surely?
