AS a Celtic fan, Kieran Tierney didn’t have to think twice about committing his future to the club.
The Hoops player had only signed a bumper four-year deal in August 2015 after impressing in the first few months of the season and his stellar year at the champions has been rewarded again with a new contract that will keep him at Paradise until 2021.
The 18-year-old defender was only too happy to sign again at his favourite club and he said there is no place he’d rather be.
“I’m delighted to be here,” he said. “For me my future was only here so I’m delighted.
“There was no thought of leaving. Last year was a breakthrough season, so I need to prove myself again and hold my place down.
“The word I used last season was 'crazy' and it still feels crazy now. I only signed a four-year deal in August so to sign a new one is great. Everybody’s expectations will be high but as a football player at Celtic, you need to deal with that and I hope I can.”
Tierney’s new deal is the first to be struck by Brendan Rodgers as Celtic manager, and the Hoops defender revealed the Irishman made moves to keep the full-back at the club as soon as the players returned for pre-season.
“He spoke to me on the first day of training and I’ve signed now so it has happened so quickly, I’m delighted,” Tierney said.
“He didn’t have to persuade me. As a Celtic fan it’s not hard to persuade me to sign a new deal.
“The manager didn’t need to sell it much. I wasn’t thinking about leaving. He said we’d get a contract in place and that’s what he did.”

 

Probably not a popular view, but I'd like to see him move on to a real top club a few years down the line.

If he carries on from last year, he'll have no shortage of offers.

 

Absolutely delighted with this. I can see him staying here for 6/7 years easy.

If he's happy to stay here like Paul McStay did, then brilliant.

 

Think he'll only move if pushed out with a big offer, by the board..

 

Possibly. The fact he grew up a Celtic fan does work in our favor in terms of keeping him.

But if he continues to progress at this rate, Scottish football will eventually become less challenging.

 

Needs to change his squad number imo 63 is far too high for a 1st team regular give him Number 3 or 2

 

Great news,hopefully he can be even better this season.
