On the bench for Arsenal tonight, dropped in favour of an 18 year old kid. Fair to say his time at Arsenal is well and truly done regardless of whether his future is here or elsewhere.

Can’t wait to see him back in the hoops

  4. They made it public they won’t take up the year option they have, made his return in a cup game, but despite playing in the cup it’s always going to be they want rid. He’s on good wages even for Arsenal, and they can’t rely on his fitness to take up another year for the return on what they pay.

Celtic face two major stumbling blocks in their pursuit of left-back Kieran Tierney, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (23 December) that Arsenal defender Tierney would be interested in a return to his boyhood club.

The Gunners have decided that they will not activate the one-year extension clause in the 27-year-old’s contract, which is currently set to end next June.

Tierney, who has a big admirer in Brendan Rodgers, can strike a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from 1 January.

However, it is believed clubs in England and abroad are monitoring his situation – preventing Celtic from having a free run at their former left-back.

Meanwhile, finances will also dictate how competitive the Hoops are able to be in the race for his signature

Tierney can hold out for a bumper payday by running down his contract at the Emirates Stadium and forgoing the need for a transfer fee.

A big-money outlay would represent a considerable risk for Celtic due to the Scotland international’s injury history

Tierney has only recently made his comeback from a hamstring problem sustained at the European Championships with Scotland.

His time at Arsenal and a loan spell with Real Sociedad have been littered with injuries which have prevented the defender from reaching his full potential.

Tierney made 170 appearances for Celtic before leaving for the Premier League in a reported £25million move in 2019.

  10. It's a no brainer really.
Worries about injuries? Aye but that's coz he plays hard and is a winner.

    Bring him home

  11. 50/50 on this his injury history gives me the fear. There would be no way hed manage three games a week so if we signed him on high wages and his understudy begins to out perform then its wasted funds

  12. He'd be a player that's good for the dressing room and has big game mentality , he is unfortunately made of glass at this point though so not quite sure if the costs would be worth it.

Think if he came back it’s more likely that he’ll miss loads of games than not. It’s a risk we won’t know unless we try. Rather have a good quality left back in with a better record of fitness but we seem incapable of doing that. So that kinda adds to the risk being worth taking?

  13. Genuinely hope someone offers him enough money to tempt him away from coming back here. Don’t want him anywhere near a football pitch for us, unless it’s in the stands as a fan.

  14. I would take the gamble and take him back. Yes, he might get injured but then again, he might not but I think it's a gamble worth taking unless, of course, we go out and buy a quality LB which, as we know, hasn’t happened since KT left.

  15. I struggle with this way of thinking. Go out and properly scout a player who doesn’t have a horrendous injury record. In the 4 and a half years since he has been away from us, including the year at Sociedad, he has missed over 550 days of football. That’s over a year and a half out injured. That equates to nearly 120 games through injury, which is about 30 games a season. So, over half of our standard games, provided we get to cup finals.

It’s not a case of if he gets injured, it’s not even a case of when. It will be a case of how long is he out for. People seem to think we can manage his injuries but he’s been playing on far better pitches, against very few * who will deliberately target him and working alongside the very best medical team money can buy and his injury record is getting steadily worse. He won’t be on a * pittance when we sign him either. He will likely be one of the higher paid players in the squad.

Go out and find a left back. Not only is signing Kieran Tierney a gamble from an injury perspective, it’s also * horrendously lazy. Signing a guy who’s been linked with a return for the last 2 and a half years and came through our youth system. If that’s the best we can hope for, the new Head of Recruitment better have something up his sleeve to sort the mess out because what the * have our scouts been doing the last 6 months.

  16. It's absolutely mental that people just dismiss his injury record and think we'll be able to keep him fit because he loves the celtic, has a winning mentality, he's a warrior or whatever. Arsenal can't keep him right with EPL level medical staff, playing on better pitches, against less hatchet men, how is he going to stay fit for us? Do people forget how he was targeted during his time here?

If he was fit and reliable there's no question we should take him back, but then if he was fit an reliable there would be no talk of him coming back here at all.

  17. Just sign him and play him in the Champions League games and the games against them. That’s what I’ve been seeing. I forgot you can pick and choose the time of the season you get injured.

Also the ‘manage him and play someone else against the dross’ because, ultimately, we can get through the diddy teams without him. Then what is the actual * point of signing him then. We’ve been competitive in the Champions League, without him. We battered the Huns and won the cup, without him. We are 12 points clear and unbeaten in the league, dropping 4 points only… without him. We literally don’t need to sign him.

Wee Baldy and horseshoe like this.
  18. Our scouts have failed misrably over the last few years to identify a suitable replacement for KT which we can all agree is a damning indictment of our scouting system however, as you say, maybe our new Head of Recruitment does have someone decent lined up and not some project or unknown quantity that we regularly get. If that fails to materialise then I'd still be happy with KT coming back as Arteta was willing to play him in their league cup games which means he must still be match fit.

  19. Injury woes may or may not be behind him. That's something for our medical staff and Brendan to assess. To dismiss this out of hand is frankly insane.
