Rarely? I’d say those 12 mentioned in the last decade is pretty regular. And that’s not including the likes of Henry Vieira Van bronkchorst Overmars before that.

Arsenal are the perfect club for him to go to just now if he’s wanting to eventually join one of the elite teams that will challenge for the CL.

Aye, there's not really anything left for him to do...other than continue playing in our most dominant period domestically since Stein and potentially do something that even Stein couldn't in 10 in a row.

If he goes to Arsenal for the cash then it's his choice to make but he's no Paul McStay.

Arsenal are about as perfect a choice for him as they were for wittering Charlie Nic!! See where they got him. It's uncanny actually.

Would be a VERY poor choice.

Well one easy yardstick is they’re the 3rd most successful English side of all time.

A quick bit of googling to see the results of research carried out by several news outlets will show that Arsenal are consistently ranked 2nd or 3rd in “biggest English club” - going by their global reach, trophies won, social media presence etc.

Historically, yes they are the third biggest. Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal.

I think there's an enormous middle ground between "meh" and Paul McStay, mate. If he leaves this summer, for me he'll be in the same bracket as the likes of Michael Lustig or JVOH. Played well here, were a part of some big things and definitely became Celtic fans to an extent and will be remembered very fondly; but not exactly Paul McStay.

The only player currently with even a shout of that kind of status is Broony.

Easy to say that sitting behind a computer. When someone waves 70 grand a week in your face, it's a bit different.

If we win 10IAR, he’ll have played a part in 5 of those titles. He’ll have done his bit and more.

On the flip side, what if he turns down a move to Arsenal, doesn’t win 10IAR and continues to pick up injuries making him less attractive to better teams? He needs to think about his career.

Like I said, I wouldn’t begrudge him the move.

Nope, but you said “by any yardstick”. One such yardstick must be their on pitch success.

Arsenal are and have been the third biggest club in England. I would say that’s a pretty common train of thought.

    Clearly not.

A showed you proof. Type his name and Newcastle in Google. Plenty of sites. Even Bolton offered £7m for him 2009. You wouldn't know though, your maw would still be wipping your * then.

    Crystal palace 2014

Hamburg feyenoord and Newcastle in 2011

Knocked them all back. So up ye. I even come back with news reports but your maws not here to back you up. Back to school we man. Fact is broony is a true legend who's knocked back plenty big money offers. Tierney may just jump at his first.

You've got to separate your personal life and your professional one. Objectively, Arsenal is a fantastic move for him in terms of money, progression and everything really.

You used the fact they’ve won more trophies so by your logic rangers are a bigger club than Celtic.

Nottingham Forrest have won the European Cup twice, Villa once, Chelsea once. Arsenal never.

He is entitled to think about his career if that's the route he wants to go down but the badge-kissing and megaphone-waving will all look silly in retrospect.

The likes of McStay and Larsson sacrificed aspirations for their bank balance and career to stay at Celtic. He certainly won't be of their ilk if he moves to Arsenal at this point.

I said that the trophies was one of the factors that make up the size of a club. I didn’t say it was the only one.

You do you, though. Debate something for the sake of it, without actually attempting to have a reasonable discussion. Like you always do.

Where is all this mass hysteria stemming from? Him coming home?
