No team needs any team to bid for their players, unless they’re in danger of something like going bust or FFP.

We’ve rejected a bid already and told Arsenal that they need to pay a certain price. It’s pretty obvious he’s going to leave on our terms.

And around the time VVD went to Southampton players like Vertonghen and Alderweireld moved to a bigger wealthier club for less money. Because they weren’t being bought from English clubs. Using the likes of Wan Bissaka or John Stones as the barometer for transfer fees doesn’t make any sense when we’re not an English club.

That's my point, being an English Club should have no relevance in how we determine a player's worth. He's a football player, a very good one that plays in a sought after position and has tons of potential to go far in the game. He's proved himself in the Champions League against top level opposition and in International games so we know we're not over-valuing his ability.

If he wasn't a Celtic fan, was desperate to move or had an agent that was agitating for cash then our hand would possibly be forced to sell. For all we know none of those are the case so we should have no reason to be forced into a sale.

If the likes of an Arsenal make a derisory offer and we refuse because it doesn't meet our valuation and they say "Well we don't think he's worth your valuation as he doesn't play in the EPL" then we should shrug our shoulders and tell them that we do value him at said amount, if they're not willing to pay it then we end our communication.

I agree, and I don’t think it does. But if being an English club has no relevance then why are the fees/potential fees for Bissaka, Stones, Digne, Stones being brought up?

And the last paragraph, isn’t that what’s happening...? We’ve told them a price, it’s upto them if they want to meet it.

I meant in terms of it being used to inflate their fees down south and deflate fees from clubs of other countries.

Aye, it is but you said you can't see Everton paying anywhere near £30 million plus a 15% sell-on fee (which I agree with) but until they do then it should be "Thanks but no thanks"

He's in the top 30 of LBs in World Football when fit and at the top of his game, his fee should be relative to that for me.

Top 10, nevermind top 30. So many national teams that are considered strong don't have great LB-s.

It doesn’t deflate though. If we get £25m from Atletico, Lyon, Napoli or whoever else it’ll be accepted as well.

And tranfer fees don’t work by relativity unfortunately. Especially when it comes to comparing the fees from clubs with vastly different resources and incomes.

Of course it does. Stones was not 4 times the player of Van Dijk, we knew it, Southampton knew it, yet we accepted the bid of £13 million. Van Dijk did want away for his development at that point, hadn't performed in the Champions League to the levels Tierney had and wasn't an International player so the fee was influenced by those things.

Valuations (for the most part) don't work in relation to other players in their position but they should. That's the point I'm making. We all know how good he is, if someone wants to prise him away from us then they need to pay in accordance with his standing in LBs in World Football (which is pretty high in my opinion) if they don't then they can toddle on.

The fact he doesn't play against Crystal Palace, Watford, Huddersfiled is irrelevant. He's excelled against better teams than those. It's time to make a stand against EPL arrogance.

Just because prices inflate in England doesn’t mean that it deflates prices for everyone else. Alderweireld and Vertonghen went for prices similar to VVD around the same time.

The player most relative to Tierney is Robertson and he cost Liverpool £8m. Thank * transfers aren’t relative in that case.

If prices rise for other players of a comparative standard then they should also rise for that player, irrespective of where they play.

There were other factors that determined Robertson's fee though, he had a clause in his contract that stated he could leave for that fee if they were relegated. Also while he was a tidy player at that point, Tierney was the much more rounded LB when he went for that fee in my opinion. His development since then has been incredible and arguably took him beyond Tierney.

If the player most relative to Tierney is Robertson we’re laughing because he’d be going nowhere for a penny less than 75 million quid.

    Happy days.

Again, football doesn’t work like that. The same reason Leicester will end probably getting around double for Chilwell what Real paid for Ferland Mendy who is infinitely a better player than Chilwell. No matter how much anyone thinks football should be like that it simply isn’t.

Where did you read see about a clause? Genuinely never heard of him having a clause. I don’t think it’s even an argument that he’s beyond Tierney now.

I'm sure I read it - but I could be making it up :56:- maybe I'm getting mixed up between players. A Google search shows he was in last year of contract though which is another factor of why his fee can't be directly correlated with Tierney who is contracted to us til 2023.

It just doesn’t make sense comparing fees English clubs get to ourselves :giggle1:

I don’t see anyone demanding we get £25m for Ntcham while Longstaff (a diddy for Killie) looks to be joining Man Utd for that.

Just think it’s a false comparison and people get far too worked about it :56:

If Ntcham was off another good season, had played well in the Champions League and broken into the national team then we could. He's done none of those things though. He's struggled against the likes of St Mirren for example.

The fee we get for him will be purely speculative that he will live up to his potential. With Tierney we have reams of evidence to show that he will be a success wherever he goes.

Longstaff hasn’t played in the CL or broken into his national team either(one that isn’t World Champions).

That’s why it’s a false comparison. The only thing that matters is it’s an English club selling.

Seemingly Arsenal just bid £30m+ for a St Etienne player who's played just 16 games in his career..............

Best post in the thread. Honestly don't think anything more needs to be said than what you wrote unless or until someone comes in with a much more reasonable offer or KT says he wants away.
