    ^^^^^

I would be astonished, but delighted if we could get anywhere near £5m for a player who is inconsistent, disappears to Asia every other Xmas and is not a guaranteed start for an SPL side.

Talk of his potential is getting pretty boring. He hasnt improved, he still lacks what we are looking for and we need to cut our losses.

We could say the same for Brown and Commons but they seem to get more leeway and time to impress.

If we sell him we sell him, I don't think it would be a massive blow to the team, I think he seems to become a major target for the critics when we have a bad game while some who potentially played just as bad or worse seem to get less of a witch hunt.

All I can say is that I like him and IMO if given a good run we could see his real potential develop. That's just my thoughts. Fire away.

Broony (unfairly IMHO) takes a fair hammering on here.

A team of 11 men with Broony's determination and skill (in their chosen positions) would have won the treble this year!

I thought he was one of our better players yesterday, along with Commons. But there cant be anyone who can honestly say he has hit the heights that we were expecting. And he is not far shy of having played a 100 games for us so he has had plenty of opportunities. That and the fact that he himself is not wanting to commit to another contract till the summer, when he will have 18mths left on his contract tells me that its time for him to move.

We should recoup some money for him. Commons has had a poor season this year for one reason and another, and I think that Brown has shown himself to be a better player than he has been in recent seasons. The team needs his drive when Kayal is out.

Brown has been here a lot longer than Ki and has finally proved himself worth keeping in your eyes. Yet you have totally written off any chance of Ki improving. This for me is illogical.

Fair point but Ki is still young (excuse the pun) Brown was given a lot of time to come into his own which I do think he is now but if we took the same attitude with him he would have been punted long ago.

I am also a big fan of Commons, I am not picking on him but sometimes we are too eager to look elsewhere instead of practising a bit of patience. Thats why I think if Ki wants to stay then we should hold on to him and if it does not work out then we still have the option to punt him on a longer contract.

What is never taken into account with regard to Ki is that not only is he young but he is from a different continent. It must be much more difficult for young players from the far east to adjust to our culture and style of play. For this reason ki should be given more time to adjust and adapt than home grown players.

That's my point but, he has took a fair hammering (and a lot of the times rightly so) but he was given the time and faith by lenny to rise above it and has done so.

Why can't we give Ki the same grace?

2 seasons and near a 100 games isnt long enough? And sorry, the fact he comes from Asia makes no difference, in fact, it adds to the reasons for him leaving. Didnt hear that excuse when Naka played.

And for the other post regarding Brown, thats fair enough, however its fair to say he had issues away from football that clearly had an impact. He has also signed a long term contract, Ki could run his down.

Naka moved to Europe when he was 24 and was 27 with 4 years European experience when he moved to Celtic. It would be therefore difficult to make the same excuse for him.

Is your issue with Ki the length he has left in his contract ? If this is the case and he will not renew then I would agree with selling him. If not then he should be given the same consideration as Brown.

We require a playmaker in our team. So, if you want Ki gone, give me a replacement suggestion.

Just for the record, Scott Brown was voted Players Player of the Year in his second season as a Celtic player. Ki is now into his 3rd season as a Celtic player and still hasn't really proved himself.

So there is really no substance to the argument that it took Scott Brown as long, or longer, to prove himself in a Celtic shirt as it is taking Ki.

I was using Kemosabes assertion that Scott Brown has only now started to prove himself and his unwillingness to accept that Ki can improve in the future. I have not expressed these to be my own opinion.

Partly, and partly I dont see him developing in the time he has been here. We hear he has potential. Near a 100 games and still we hear it. He is supposed to be better in Europe. He has done little in Europe, in the Sion game he was hopeless.

And if he is not gonna extend, then we sell. I have nothing against him, like all Celtic players, but I dont think he is good enough. And never will be.

I never asserted that Scott Brown has only just started to prove himself, I was accepting your argument on it as a valid one. Not my opinion either. This thread is about Ki, I think Broony has a whole other thread going on. :icon_mrgreen:

I am unwilling to accept that Ki will improve much more beyond what he has done. Based on what I have seen and nearly a 100 games of mostly mediocrity.

I am using this quote from your previous post in my assumption.

I get the impression that people do not like playmakers here. Because all they demand is defensive contribution. It is therefore strange to see that people want Kranjčar here. He and Ki are pretty similiar in playing style. In Croatia, Kranjčar received complaints for having weight issues, which makes him a bit like Commons. If someone thinks Kranjčar is good at defensive duties- think again. The best offensive midfielder in that aspect is Rakitić, and that's because the tyrannical Magath drilled that into him, while he was at Schalke. If people want Kranjčar, then I see no justification in extreme criticism of Ki.
