There is a whole other Europe outside of britain

    Son Heung-Min Hamburg
    Jung Jo-Gook Auxerre/Nancy
    Koo Ja-Cheol Wolfsburg/Augsburg
Park Joo-Ho The mighty manure slayers Basel

The glut of Scotish players in England is down to proximity rather than talent. Ireland have more players playing in the EPL than Scotland yet I think they would struggle to beat Korea without adopting defensive tactics.

people feel this way because they see Korea playing in the World cup but that is simply due to the weakness of their competition. The United States, both Korea's, Australia, and Honduras would not qualify for the world cup if they had to go through the European route. the only non European/South American team that I believe would have a hope in * of qualifying through the European route would be Japan. Obviously none of this could be proved but just look at the standard that most of Korea's players are playing at and compare it to Scotland, its far inferior.

but yet the question is could Scotland perform just as well in such a competition in the first place?.

i simply just stating that the korean national team are their on merit and obviously have a good squad to put them there making competition for POTY surely better then you guys make it out to be just because three people were getting games through injury or just not being picked and if the world rankings favors teams from lesser confederations how teams like England 6th

also when Ki was given an extended run he was a goal threat and got us goals and moved the ball around well and was leading from midfield in terms of goals, then he got ill and Forrest exploded and scored a fair few to take over Ki.

I didn't mention those players because they don't deserve mentioning none of those players have proven anything yet. scotland has better players than them who don't make the squad.

Apart from many things I firmly disagree with your opinions,

    [Korea vs Japan.]

    75 matches, Korea wins 40, 22 draws, 13 loss.
And you say Korea is far inferior to Japan. Great conclusion.

Would like to see a list of the Scottish players who cant make the squad who would be signed by Hamburg never mind Basel.

On a point you made earlier. Many European teams enter the CL with ease eg ourselves and the huns. We do not do well because we play in a weak league with little competition.

Therefore a team like Korea qualifying from an inferior group for the world cup should struggle rather than get results beyond their capability. European teams have the advantage of playing high quality teams in their qualifying groups.

I suspect we can just agree to disagree on whether Korea are better than Scotland.

The Fifa ranking system favors winning, it doesn't really care who you win against. Because of this non European teams have better rankings than they deserve because the standard of opposition they play in their qualifiers is lower which enables them to win more often than European teams of similar skill. In 2006 the United states reached number four in the fifa rankings. In reality that United states team probably wasn't in the top 30 teams in the world but because they beat up on minnows in qualifying they were ridiculously overrated.

England are 5th because they are a European powerhouse who win most of their qualifiers and only lose to other very high ranked teams, the ranking system doesn't ussually affect the massive teams such as england, france, brazil, argentina, germany, and the dutch unless they are monumentally bad. However it does affect the middling european teams for example poland, who went to korea and drew koreans while playing their b team are at the moment sitting in 75th place behind haiti, uzbekistan, el salvador, panama, and cape verde islands (i swear to * i didn't make that last one up). In the last few years poland have drawn mexico, korea, germany, ukraine, and portugal and they have beaten hungary, belarus, georgia, norway, and argentina (b). The poles decided to play a difficult schedule to gear up for euros but are punished by the system because of the fact they did not get many wins against these good teams.

Scottish players who aren't regulars in scotland squad but could occasionally play for relegation contending german teams:
    Johnny Russell
    James Forrest
    Jordan Rhodes
    Gary Mackay-Stevens
    Scott Allan
    Danny Wilson
    Ryan Jack
    Dylan McGeoch
    Jason Holt

granted some of the prospects I've listed are a little young but I think most of them would make Hamburg's bench.

Yes I can see Hamburg interested in signing all of these. The only problem for them would be the cost. Players who cannot make our first eleven, English championship players and players from the lower reaches of the SPL.

    SPL >>> Bundesliga.
    English Championship >>> Bundesliga
    Scotland >>> Korea

    Also
Koo Ja-Cheol Wolfsburg/Augsburg never heard of him and playing in the 2 bundesliga isn't exactly impressive(its closer to League One than the championship)

Augsburg play in the first division in Germany. As I said earlier this is a whole other Europe outside of britain.

in what world did I make the claims you are attributing to me, in the future please don't put words in my mouth. the prospects I listed for the most part start for their clubs or are regulars on the bench for teams that are better than Hamburg (who if you haven't noticed are currently in the relegation playoff spot). The prospect you mentioned while promising is not a regular for a relegation contender, hardly warrants inclusion in a list of Korea's best players.

And what a terrible mistake I made not realizing that Augsburg had been promoted, I must know nothing about football outside of Britain because I didn't realize they were promoted this year:rolleyes:

obviously he is talking about the teams at the minute so the overall records of the two against each other adds the square root of * all to the debate.

Japan's players are simply much better than Korea's, Kagawa is the best Asian player around right now and Honda isn't far behind. I also think Myiachi is going to be a great player. the Japanese team is filled with players who are playing well for big European clubs while the Korean team has a couple stars but after that their quality drops rapidly. If I'm remembering correctly Japan also won the Asian cup and humiliated South Korea in a recent friendly. I don't really care about overall records as I'm talking about the teams at the moment.

Korea also humiliated japan in there home ground in 2010. Anyways Kagawa and Honda are very good players and so is Nagatomo. But the reason why you don't know some very good korean players is because after the age of 25~27, korean players have to go to military service or military football team that plays in the K-League. This obviously means that the big european clubs are very reluctant to buy Korean plays in relation to Japanese players.

I would say the overall quality of Japanese and Korean squad is similar and their recent head-to-head are pretty similar as well, apart from the odd results.

For the past 5 years Japan and Korea played 7 times. Korea won twice Japan once and drew 4. Still can't see where "much" better comes from.

support wise Hamburg are a big club but their playing squad right now is dreadful, it certaintly isn't some great accomplishment to sit their bench like Gabriel was making it out to be. And yes the fact that Augsburg are in the Bundesliga was already pointed out to me, this is the first year in the Bundesliga in their history I believe, easy mistake to make.

Stats from the last five years mean next to nothing, the reason Japan are much better is the young players who have come into the team in the last 1-2 years, they are simply a cut above anyone else in Asian football and imo Japan will be the dominant force in Asian football for the next decade. In addition to the young players currently in their team they also have a large amount of young players all over Europe who are very promising and have yet to be given serious time for the senior national side. Korea's young players just don't match up.
