The vast majority of you lot seem to bring it up before we do, immediately dismissing it as 'luck' or 'irrelevant'.

I bet the whole of England was seething at that "Oh fow * sake, William! Now we carn't be ignoorant and blindly claim that the SPL is *".

Funny how a team from a "diddy league" got to the same stage in the Champions League as every English team in it.

Wilson was better in the Champions League than he was the SPL.

The English are all brain-washed by their media to thinking they have a good standard of football when the truth of the matter is that they're miles behind several other Leagues when it comes to quality.

Spot on. Any striker with a bit of strength would make him look silly.

His only attribute is his pace which don't get me wrong, can be very effective.

I think to be at his most effective he would need a big hard nut next to him, something we never seen here.

Higdon, Tade & Daly being the obvious examples.

Missing the most obvious of all - Eminike at Parkhea last season.

You can see where his strengths lie, he is a fast, good at intercepting, slide tackling defender. He wasn't a battler.

Was still a good defender though and by far our best defender, I just don't think we ever partnered him with a defender that suited his style.

He seemed to play more on Ambrose that night. But aye, he terrorised us that night. Wilson was a gentle giant somewhat. I do think his pace bailed him out on occasions.

Its not a question of quality, its more a question of the appeal of the championship. At the weekend wilson went straight in to make his debut at ewood park against blackburn.
That's the type of fixture he can look forward to every week in this division.

It's so competetive down here that even the likes of brighton are pulling 25k crowds. You must surely see the appeal to a player, even afterr giving up european football

There is an appeal, I just don't think it's an appeal that trumps the Champions League or winning medals.

Agree with dev here. Ofc there are more games with bigger crowds, but it doesnt matter if everyone is silent. Could be 120k, but if none sing, its pointless!

Games away at Tynecastle, Pittodrie, Partick(sure it will be nice), Dundee Utd and sometimes Easter Road, always bring a fantastic atmosphere! And on top of that we have CL Football (Best league in the world)

He went back because of his family, and for that i salute him :50:

No game Kelvin Wilson ever plays for Forest will top any of our Champions League games from last season in terms of appeal. He has sacrificed ever playing again in Europe by going back to Forest.

And yet he still did it.

All im saying boys is the few big barcelona nights arent the be all ans end all when the weekly games are much poorer

Anyway, best of luck for the season. Contrary to what you seem to think everyone I know who enjoys football will be following your fortunes in the CL again this year hoping for more upsets.

Yes, he did it for family reasons. It certainly wasn't for footballing reasons. Of course the Champions League nights are the be all and end all, it's the biggest footballing competition on the continent, every player wants to be part of it. Especially one at Parkhead (backed up by many ex and current pros). Playing against Derby, Brighton, Barnsley etc week in week out isn't exactly great either, not by a long shot, and when you take into account that Europe is a pipedream many years away if ever, it's a poor move football wise.

You are aware that there are almost twice the amount of people living in London alone than in the entire country of Scotland, aren't you? With a population difference like that it's only natural that you'll see higher crowds at English football games.

Regardless, that doesn't make any difference to the topic being discussed.

It's really quite simple. Wilson was born in Nottingham, and his family live in Nottingham. He moved to another country and failed to settle, thus he jumped at the opportunity to return home.

Him saying that playing for Forest in the lower leagues of England ranks higher in his career accomplishments than playing on Europe's biggest stage against possibly the greatest club side of all time, and directly against possibly the greatest player of all time is simply him doing his best to try and endear himself to Forests fans.

There's nothing wrong with that, of course, but I'd like to think that all but the most gullible of those fans would see through that, even if they do appreciate the sentiment.

Glasgow Celtic are a huge club. They are known throughout the world, and for us to have accomplished what we have with the restrictions we have placed on us in Scotland is quite the achievement.

Nottingham Forest are a decent club, and I wish Wilson all the best, but for anyone to even hint that there is any kind of similarity between both clubs in laughable at best.

Not necessarily. A few good seasons at Forest could see him win a move to a Premiership club, with prospects of Europe.

First of all, I will start by saying that I was more thinking along the lines of him staying at Forest. Second, I doubt that he will ever play in Europe again if truth be told. I don't see him being bought by any club in the Premiership that will make Europe, I don't think he is good enough in all honesty.

    Got to agree with that.

He did a job last season after struggling and I thank him for his contribution and wish him all the best.

I can't think of too many players off the top of my head that have gone from Championship level into a Premier league team in the top half. It certainly is a rare occurrence.
