I agree Dr.V loovens over Wilson any day, Loovens attacks the ball and wins headers, Wilson stands there immobile far too often and relies on his pace to get him out of danger when a striker gets in behind him.

Mulgrew has been a revelation this season because of his performances at centre back. His partnership with Rogne has been excellent. That is the reason I can't understand why Wilson steps straight back in when fit. Your then putting Mulgrew at left back which means you have to accomodate Ledley into the m/f 4, which in turn means you leave Samaras out.

  3. For sure he has decent recovery pace, but what good is that when he's recovering from his own eff ups. He rarely wins anything in the air and gets caught flatfooted too often

Kelvin Wilson looks like what he is - a free CB from the English second division.

    I'm not picky.
Would you believe that someone in the match thread was actually blaming Mulgrew for the goal :56:

I'd usually be against going against a player after this match BUT it's not as if it's just been one match for him. The derby game back in September, the game against Ross County (before he was injured) and Sunday's game are the three that I remember the most.

His performance in Sunday's game was the worst though because it showed his awareness was lacking hugely and his staticness was shown in abundance.

The three players for me to choose from between the CD positions would be between Mulgrew, Wanyama and Rogne (the preferable first choice being Mulgrew and Rogne).

I agree with those who think the Rogne-Mulgrew partnership should not be tampered with to accommodate others. We need to look at our cover situation for Izz a bit closer in the summer.

As for Kelvin Wilson I cant put my finger on it but I just dont rate him. Think he seems to have poor positional sense and concentration. One of these players who looks like he should be good but is actually lacking some important mental aspects of the game. I also prefer Loovens. Loovens has actually been excellent in most of his games this season.

Agree, the goal was mainly his fault IMO. Caught dreaming when it mattered most.

From everything I've seen of him he's backup and little else, and that's being kind, don't know what anyone's talking about when they mention him and pace in the same sentence, I've never seen it.

Rogne and Mulgrew should be our CB partnership no question.

I agree with this. I've been saying for a year or so that we should have better cover for LB. Mulgrew is a CD.

Paul Dixon's an obvious choice being a free although he didn't have his best game there at the weekend. He's a great crosser of the ball and can defend. If we were to eventually sign a good target man, this kind of a full back would do well.

Both Wilson and Rogne ain't very good with the ball at their feet which is my main problem. Rogne is far better in the air though. Got to be Rogne and Mulgrew until we replace Loovens with better quality hopefully.

That's why we need Mulgrew in there every time. Rogne is defensively solid and brilliant in the air whereas Mulgrew is defensively solid and brilliant with the ball at his feet and playing out from the back. It brings good balance to the defense.

Some of the criticism of Kelvin Wilson since Sunday has been over the top in my view. Fair enough he didn't have a great game on Sunday but let's remember that Thomas Rogne had a nightmare in last year's league cup final. It happens. Rogne's poor performance in last year's final didn't make him a bad player and I don't believe Kelvin Wilson's poor performance on Sunday makes him a bad player either.

We always seem to need a scapegoat when we lose. Kelvin Wilson looks to be the man in the hot seat on this occasion(well, after Willie Collum).

To be fair, it's not like this is a one off. He majorly * up at ibrox earlier on in the season and has made silly little mistakes in other games too. We knew rogne's was a one off because he had been excellent before that, Wilson on the other hand hasn't been. I'm starting to see why he never really got a game for Forrest, before he signed that contract.

Really hoping he isn't in the team on Sunday, he just doesn't fill me with confidence at all

We got Gary Hooper from Scunthorpe. I'm guessing you have no problem with him?

I think people are jumping the gun a bit and being very harsh on the man because of one mistake and poor performance, i've not seen anyone say we should sell Stokesy despite his shambles of a showing on Sunday?

This is just the type of overreaction i'm talking about.

There is no way, in a billion trillion years, that Wilson is worse than either Mistakeovic or Cha, and imo he's better than Loovens as well. And then you've got to factor in reserve and youth players, so that's frankly a stupid comment to make.

I thought Wilson was poor at first, but every game he played up until the cup final he was impressing me more and more and making me think "maybe we don't need to spend millions on a top quality CB after all" because I thought he looked a good option to rival Rogne and Mulgrew, who would be my first choice central defensiver partnership all day long.

Now, if he (Wilson) comes back strong from the terrible defeat to Killie, then he deserves my (and all yours) respect and praise back. It is up to him how he bounces back, and if he does will male my mind up on him once and for all.
I don't like deciding on people before the end of the season, especially as this is his first at the club and he's had injuries to contend with which can't have helped him settling in.

It's not just one mistake and poor performance though. He was shambolic last time at Ibrokes, that's putting it kindly. Whenever he seems to play he makes silly mistakes that will eventually cost goals. In his time here I couldn't say a game where I thought he has played well.
