one or two posts on here are vey naeive (bad spelling). i would hazard a guess that a lot of the posters would be in their teens or early 20s. i too lived in the falls road area and when i was in my teens it was at the height of the troubles. i remember vividly being stoped in the street by a british army patrol, being called a stinking paddy, a murdering *, * scum. being made to take off my shoes and socks and stand spreadeagled against a wall in the * rain while they shouted abuse into my face. saw my best friend in school murdered by a rubber bullet at 12 years of age. watched as my home was wrecked, my mother and sister verbally and physically abused, my father and brothers dragged away on internment morning. my brothers wife blown to pieces in a uvf bomb. and many more i could mention although i would be here all night. the only surprising thing is that i DID NOT become a member of the ira or go to jail. what i'm basically saying is.....the troubles were as good as over when you lot were growing up and you are basing your argument on propaganda you read or are told. ask the older people in your family what happened on 9 august 1971 (internment), * sunday in derry, the civil rights marches, everyday life being a catholic in the north of ireland, trying to get a decent job etc. i agree innocent people did suffer. but are you really saying that we should have taken all that * and do nothing? i am actually ashamed to say that i didnt join the ira (my mother kept a tight rein on me). but i wil never say a bad word against men and women who stood up for their people and made the sacrifices that they did. and they are the reason that you now have some sort of peace. ok rant over! by the way.......Thatcher?,,,,,,,i hope she lives for another 5 years......gets progressively worse......eats her own legs....and chokes to death on her own *!

    Opinion

In my honest opinion I think Thatcher is a woman to be looked upon with pity and also as an example.

How many times have you heard historians say 'look upon history as this is a good example of how not to do things' She was all of that and more. As far as the I.R.A are concerned they were in the height of the troubles fighting for a cause and a common goal. Lets not forget however internal feuds and also punishment shootings along with dirty tactics by informants on young people blamed as being touts to cover their backs. As the war got dirtier so did the people taking part in it and as it came to an end people in these organisations, as power corrupts, looked for alternative means to sustain an existance within their communities with power that they once possessed as IRA members or leaders.
When this ended there were alot of 'freedom fighters' who felt forgotten or felt as though they were exempt from the law would bribe, rackateer and intimidate people in their communites to maintain their status. This later creates an emergence of the people in the areas who are criminals coming out of the woodwork as they cannot be shot like before and alot of communities are now powerless and have been told after 50 years being told not to go to the police are now being told 'yes go and give information'
This is a tough mould to break and its happening slowly but surely. Belfast is an example of the bile that comes from years of conflict. Drugs are rife and people do not respect the law as it seems to do nothing anyway yet they were swift to lock men away for 16 years for minor offences? How does people like Andre Shoukri get caught with a gun and get released on bail? Any catholic would have got life! Not so long ago. Corruption is in all areas and the IRA AND UV...whatever have created the demons in their own communities.
What needs to happen is to out this corruption and in with new people, fresh faced and fresh open minded. The DUP are a prime example of that. They have no one to blame now so they cant deal with REAL issues whereas SF have always been negotiators and shrewd in many ways and have had to fight for issues to be addressed. Its all got a bit hard for them now and they can only stall the inevitable. A turning of the tables. What I am trying to say in a long winded way is that the worst years are over and now its time to reflect and get rid of the criminality and spongers who dont do ANY good for ANYONE. The men such as Wolfetone, Pearse, O'Connell and Connolly were all men of high standing and derserved respect. Put them beside some of the so called 'Republicans' and see how they measure up? The IRA did make mistakes. They did do their fair bit in creating more problems but when people are forced into a corner what else can you do? Talk? Negotiate? With what can you negotiate when you have nothing? The British started the fire and footed the bill and rightly so. It will be the last time theyll come in all guns blazing. Afghanistan they needed the USA to hold their hands. We have learned our lesson....they havent and when Northern Ireland grows watch as many said how the tides will turn. I was in london recently and I loved it. Why? Because it was multicultural and inclusive in many ways. I wouldnt wish anything on the people of England but they do have their establisment to blame for their own crime, stabbing etc. The British establishment was based on power and money. Europe has opened this up with capitalism in hand England has diluted to a multicultural landing pad and therefore the institutions are weakened and now the economy comes along. This is all karma baby. There paying for there induced famine they caused in my country and the crap they brought with them...

Final Point: England should give up on the following: Immigration laws, cricket, football, rugby (maybe) and of course sending english * teams to paradise and calling us A British club when they feel like it.
