Good debut Imo, didn't make any real mistakes that I can remember.

Will wait to see him in a few more games before deciding, to be fair to him it was a big pressure game and a new cb partnership he done well. Needs to work on his positioning though, few times he dragged out of position too easily and a few slack passes but for the most part looked good.
Seems more of a sweeping CB, has good pace and anticipation.

For being flung in to such an important match I thought he done really well.

He can only get better and that spells good news for us.

Thought he looked well. Must be hard, playing next to izzy. When he's out of position , constantly.

Solid. Nothing fancy or OTT; just gets the ball, and gets it away from the box when needed.

Considering its a new club and new team mates and away in euro he did great....if he plays like that for most of his games he will be fine.

Didn't see him jump once for a cross - ok maybe too early to judge but like Fraser Forster doesn't seem to use his height advantage.

Thought he done really well for a debut. Not the best at lobbed ball, but looked good at reading a game and responding. Thought boyata looked much more relaxed alongside him too, which is another plus.
Too early to make decisions, but the starting signs are good i think...

Too early to judge him although he didn't do much wrong

Looks very cool but assured, fantastic debut in a game that was so high pressured. And against a very intricate Ajax front three.

That's one of the hardest games he will have all season.

We will see the best of him when him and Boyata develop an understanding.

Happy with that for a debut - distribution from the back wasn't great at times but as a centre half he looked good!

Big Virgils debut was against karagandy was it not? I remember us all giving him pelters after that so surely this guys debut is a sign of things to come.

    If we want a comparison...

Us at the back against arguably a weaker side last year in Europe (with a new defence) to now. Putting it like that... We done brilliantly. I'm obv thinking about the Warsaw match. They also liked to pay attacking football.
