If he comes even close to matching Virgil's ability, we'll all be happy with the fee. I just think many of our fans are concerned be won't, myself included.

Even if he turns out to be as good as van dijk(thats a big if) our defence hasnt got any Better .if he had been signed to strike up a partnership with van dijk instead of replacing him I may have been a little more exicted

The club really can't win, can they? Van Dijk leaving was outwith the control of the board, the manager or anyone else at the club.

We've signed a 21 year old under 21 Croatian international and it's still not good enough. This is how we operate. we move one player on at a profit and bring in a replacement who will hopefully do the same in a few years.

You are 100% right it's not good enough ,Is it really too much to ask for two good cb's at a club the size of celtic. the way we operate is a * joke ,we will never improve as a team if we continually sell our best players

Boyata is actually a very competent CB he just can't pass the ball very well, if we have Bitton dropping back to get it off him and Jozo can play the Van Dijk role then we should have a good long term partnership who we own both of.

VVD wanted to leave. We could either take £13m for him now, about 3/4 of that in January, half of it next year or nothing the year after.

Getting £13m for VVD is actually pretty good business from the board all things considered. It's a lot for a defender who is relatively unproven in Europe or any major league, and it breaks the Wanyama barrier which is key. Wanyama went to the premiership and was a success, so now clubs are willing to pay even more for our next 'big' player. If VVD does the same then why not £14m/£15m for the next guy and so on. If Simunovic turns out to be as good as VVD, he'll be that player in a couple of years time. I've been critical of the board when it comes to selling players before. Imo they handled Ledley, Hooper, Matthews poorly, but I really feel that we got the best deal we could of hoped for with VVD.

Very true ,he was sold at the right time, what can you do if a player wants to leave, we can't compete with the wages down South so we are where we are, attract prospects, bring them on a bit, showcase them and sell them on for profit.
It's not ideal from a supporter's view as we want the best player's and team possible but I really can't see a solution other than finding players that are not interested in huge salary's and love Celtic

There is no solution unless we moved to premiership let's face it , that's the only way we will ever triumph in Europe again if we can already beat the likes of the big 4 in England then once we had the same money backing etc we would dominate

Completely irrelevant to the point I'm making, van dijk had been talking his move the last 3 transfer Windows,we have been * about waiting on a player who didn't want to be here to change his mind instead of getting two good cb's now we are sitting here hoping this guy is going to turn out to be a top player,if he doesn't our defence is going to be a shambles
