New back line to compliment KT, take the money and reinvest it straight away.

    £8m for me it’s a no brainier.

    Jozo £8m
    Erik £3m
    Dembele £25m
    Armstrong £6m
    VVD £9m

Get at least two thirds of that reinvested in quality players

If he goes I hope it's to Burnley with a sell on clause, they rarely concede so playing in a team as defensive as them would hopefully make him look good and more valuable in the future.

"The money actually comes in installments, not all up front"

"We don't actually get the Champions League money until next year"

"The summer window is a tough one, our best bet is to target our signings in the winter window"

"January is a tough time to get players in the market is inflated, better looking at the summer window"

Trust me, the more money we have the more excuses people come up with for us not to spend, it's mental.

100% would accept 8 million, but would definitely need another CB in in this window then.

Tough one. £8m down south gets you nothing. On his day, he is a solid defender and our best centre back. Also, we're not exactly blessed at the back. There's a few more that should be shown the door before him.

Injuries, can't play on certain pitches, off form now with Ajer and Boyata (worryingly) being chosen ahead of him.

I'd push for more or/and a decent sell on clause.

We'd need a replacement(s) to lined up. We need players who will improve the defence, not who are to be used as squad fillers. We have enough of those at the back.

£8m gets you a £5m profit (if the £3m reports are true on Jozo's original signing here) which gives you £8m (or thereabouts) to spend, added in with the probable £1.5m for Erik Moanatchenko, and the (reported) £9m from the van Dijk sale.

So somewhere roughly in the region of between £16-18m to play with.

Could get you one or two over-inflated bampots from England, or 4/5/6 decent prospects elsewhere in Europe.

    I'd go for the latter.

We're never spending that sort of money in this, and even next, window.

All good in theory mate but nae chance were spending anywhere near those figures. We’ll be extremely lucky to see £6/8m spent.

Unless an exceptional player becomes available, I'm not so sure I want us spending all that cash in this January window.

Summer is the best time to do business.

We;ve already signed Compper - on paper sounds exactly the type of player we need for this inexperienced backline (Lustig excluded). That said though, if Simunovic goes, then we'll need to replace him in the summer (Bitton will do fine as cover for the SPL - Compper/Ajer/Boyata/Bitton

    That's my point mate.

I know fine well we're not going to see every penny of that invested.

So say we make (top line) £18m, I'd probably agree with you we'd see about £6-7m of that invested.

So do we go chase a defender from down England that will cost us the majority of that £6/7m, or go to the continent where there are MUCH better players for MUCH better prices.

I've heard the same pish for many years about if the player is right, we'd spend big. That player has never materialised. It ain't happening.

I'd fear going up against Zenit with Bitton at the back.

Compper and Ajer will be the 1st choice pairing for the remainder of the season, I'd imagine.

As for your point previously, I think that notion has been dispelled considering we made moves to get Paddy Roberts in PERMANENTLY (which, at my guess would have cost somewhere in the region of £6-8m), which was obviously knocked back at the last minute by Guardiola.

I’d avoid the English leagues at all costs when it comes to transfers tbh. Much better value in Eastern Europe, Scandinavia and Holland.

    Transfermarkt, usually quite accurate.
