Keep Jozo along with Ajer and Compper we just need 1 more centre back in while getting rid of Boyata and Erik.

If the cash was decent enough AND we brought in a QUALITY replacement, I'd happily punt him along with Erik..

The more I've thought about it ... if we had to keep one out of Simunovic or Boyata, it's closer than you'd think.

    Jozo- Better player
    Boyata- Better desire

It will polarise opinion on this forum but I'd rather have Boyata than Jozo in my starting 11 alongside Ajer.

In saying that, I don't think Boyata particularly wants to be here much longer either, but with Jozo it's so clear to see and his recent performances have reflected that.

Hopefully both go and we get better in but I can't see that happening in one window.

I'm not sure it is a question of desire as many seem to think.

He signed a new deal just a matter of months ago and we were all delighted (for the most part)...my opinion of him hasn't changed that much since the end of September. I just think he is seriously out of form and lacking in some confidence currently.

Boyata would go ahead of him for me every day.

Honestly couldn't call it at the minute though in terms of how our defence will look in 6 months time.

I'm still a big fan of his. I would like to see him start beside ajer, think it would be a much more steady partnership less prone to error than boyata

The worry is if we do get rid of him is what sort of replacement we get for him

Aye I agree with a lot of folk on here. Jozo hasn't suddenly become * over night. He's either got an injury or the PSG thrashings have really knocked his confidence.

No coincidence that we actually started the season really well and as soon as PSG thumped us 5-0 at home we began to struggle.

Don’t think I’ve ever witnessed such a sharp turn on a player and, for me, it’s almost all down to blaming him for Swinecastle.

I agree with benching him just now but he hasn’t become a bad player over night, I like him a lot.

I think there was an element of over-rating him to begin with. I don't think he's a bad player but I certainly never understood the hype.

Sending Kenny Miller into space can kind of turn you into a cult hero overnight.

Plus last season he was relatively injury free for a change and his consistency in our unbeaten run was remarkable.

Think he's struggled with fitness and confidence this year.

Depends on how you equate that relative to other defenders. Is he Franco Baresi? No. Is he good enough to be a first choice Celtic defender? For me, 100% yes.

As I've said in this thread before, it is patronising as * to suggest folk rated him for a single tackle.

If he left in the summer we’d have been gutted. He’s one of the only players in our team who could step up at this moment and play for a better team than us in a big league.

People shouting about the Miller tackle are conveniently forgetting how class he’d been for months prior and months after that game. The first mistake I seen him make in a Celtic jersey was against PSG at home, I’d be happy to be corrected on that.

Still a fantastic centre back with a lot of room for improvement. As previous posters have suggested he is suffering from a severe lack of confidence.

Recent circumstances mean I can forgive him for his nervousness, loss of form and lack of confidence. Such as playing beside Lustig who exposes the back four any time someone runs at him.

Or playing in front of Craig Gordon. A man who continuously makes errors only to proceed to blame others in front of him with ten years less experience than he has.

After we were beaten by PSG we won the next 4 games in a row without conceding a goal - beating Dundee, Ross County, Rangers & Anderlecht.

Is Simunovic's dip in form partly due to who he's been playing next to ?

Last season him and Boyata had a decent partnership but everyone in a green and white jersey was playing out their skin. Boyata is nowhere near good enough, this is a CB that made one start last season until January against Albion Rovers and has just sort of remained in the team. Not to mention this season he's played in beside:

    Boyata - Dreadful
Sviatchenko - Played against Linfield and briefly Rosenborg before going off injured
Lustig - Not a natural CB, barely even a RB these days
    Bitton - Defensive midfielder
Ajer - Young lad in his breakthrough season

Every fan would've been extremely disappointed if we had let him go this summer and now 6 months down the line he divides opinion, there are much worse CB's at the club right now (see above). Ajer and Simunovic would be the starting CB's for me until I've seen Commper play in real life and not just these highlight reels on youtube.

£8 million or whatever has been quoted is a substantial fee but with plenty of room for his development and our tendency not to invest the income we receive from selling players back into the first team, I think we are much better keeping hold of him for the time being.

He's a decent player but don't really mind either way if we keep him or get rid of him. Wouldn't be that hard to find someone as good as him and this season anyway he's been our 3rd or 4th best centre half

Aye that Miller one has been ripped the * out of. He was much more beast mode against that mob in the 1 nil semi before..

His slide tackling. Positioning. Body on the line defending and even his passing out at time's had many of us buzzing about how good this guy was and could be..

It's undeniable that he's been very poor this season though. Right back to Hearts first game for their goal where he let's it go over his head and gets caught out. That's happened to him so many time's throughout this season and Hearts was just all of it at once at their hovel. An absolute killer of a performance..

I don't know if it's injuries, a lack of confidence or who he's playing beside and in front of.....perhaps a combination of all, but he has been really really uncharacteristically poor at time's this season..
