For me, a better defender than VVD as bold a statement as that is.

Clearly nowhere near him as a footballer but in terms of defending, for Celtic anyway, far superior.

Absolutely immense defender. As much as Sutton (not for the first time) tries to downplay or overlook his defending and ability..

Carrying Bitton, as he did a couple of time's against the diets and Rosenborg..

Terrific defender, yes, but not as good as van Dijk. Yet. Give him time, though. :50:

I'll say it again, he deserves a good partner at centre half. Feel sorry for him having to put up with Bitton.

Aye, yer right......that IS a bold statement!

Love the big man though, hard as nails, great in the tackle. No.1 CB for us.

    As a defender?

Much better already. Don't be clouded by 50 million tinted glasses, he could be dodgy at the back for Celtic.

Totally agree mate,i thought Van * wasn't good in Europe for us and Jozo has been the opposite with the few games he has had.

    Behave yersel.

Big Virgil was the best CB we had for years (outwith big Johan).

Jozo is superb, but he too is prone to a few errors now and again (not so much in recent times, but like all defenders, aye).

Big guy is unreal. His reading of the game for someone of his age is something else. Can't believe we've not seen him being linked to big money moves.

Turning into a great defender, and vital for us right now.

VVD was much better than Mjallby overall but Mjallby was a better defender as well. And Jozo, as an out and out defender, is better than both.

Van Dijk strolled through games. He's an all round better footballer than Simunovic. But the big man is class, he could go on to be talked about big moves in England like Van Dijk is.

I disagree, but he certainly isn't far off of both their levels.

He's a good as any defender we've had in the last 20 years

Really the only player I can pull up on today. Looked a bit indecisive in the first half and had a few really poor passes. Not going to blow it out of proportion, but just a bit surprising considering his great form so far this season.

I thought he looked ill last night - a couple of close ups showed him to be very pale - wouldn't be surprised if he has the flu or something
