Jozo Simunovic

  1. Yes and no... if they allow Gordon to organise them there'll be plenty of experienced knowledge - hoping Schmeichel type role. But will the lads do that? It's a big gamble, one we may take until next year to see any return from. Interesting...

  2. Not if that Mamic * has papped a 40-50% sell-on fee into the bargain

  3. I can dream here, but if we kept VVD too, we could suddenly look pretty solid at the back...

  4. £4m is the fee?! The last time we spent that much we bought the legendary Marc Antonine Fortune.:fear:

  5. But but but but...big fee=legend.:smiley-laughing002:

  6. I had to register to this forum for 3 reasons:
    A) I like Celtic. Not a huge fan, but i'm fond of them.
    B) I had to google if the news about Simunović to Celtic was actually true and this site popped up
    C) i feel the obligation to tell you what Šimunović is like as one of around 1000 people on EVERY Dinamo Zagreb home game (yeah, 1000 people. So i really doubt people who say they've seen him play often are telling the truth). Also, i watch every Dinamo away game on TV.

So, where to start? The first thing you're probably wondering is...
    Is he any good?
well....no. especially not 6-7-8 million euros worth!

    Can he defend?
    * no. probably one of the worst defenders Dinamo Zagreb had in the recent years (yeah, i know we have Pivarić on our left back...sigh)

i dont know where the stories about his injuries popped up because he wasnt, at least not recently. the reason he's not playing is because he was pushed down the ladder...and that ladder already contains very very bad defenders like Taravel and Sigali (some would argue they're not that bad, and i mostly agree with them, but with a team that is playing the Champions League...they're pretty bad).

But how did you win the league title and concede so few goals with him in the squad?
    ah...that's the true question...
remember Aberdeen playing Rijeka the first Europa qualification round? when they f*cked them up 0-3 the first game? yeah....Rijeka is the second strongest croatian league team. i dont really think i have to say anything more (note: im not degrading Aberdeen, im degrading our league).
Croatian league is utter sh*t. Dinamo Zagreb is 5 levels above others and there are so few attacks that defenders have to stop that they really don't have to defend at all to win a game.

But how did you make it in the Champions League with him playing?
Fola Esch (Lux), Molde (Nor) and Skenderbeu (Alb). nuff said. and even then he played in 4 games and conceded 5 goals (after the 3-3 molde game the coach benched him). Now, i'm not saying he effud up every goals here, however i would say his errors would be punished with far more goals against a tougher opponent.

TL;DR: he is not a good defender, he is error-prone and often confused on the field.
HOWEVER! he is fast, tall and very very young, so still in development. Maybe the only thing he needs is experience? to be honest, i really wouldnt want to gamble with him for that kind of money and on the other hand i'm delighted to see him go from Dinamo.

    Dinamo Zagreb fan.

heard 5million up front deal rising to 6.5 million with add ons, report on sky sports news in glasgow tomorrow to close deal. biggest deal seen us pay in a long time....

  7. dinamo zagreb fan with perfect english, not buying this one bit

  8. I really don't want this *. :56:

We need to start a twitter campaign to remind Lawell that he's a stingy * and that we dont like him spending like posh spice on coke.

And for that reason alone is why VVD is going.

I know we've said he's not a replacement for VVD. If the board truly believe that, I expect us to sign another centre back after jozo arrives and when VVD leaves.

  10. did some one put something in pistol petes coffee this morning 5 million well i ever haha

  11. To be honest, I don't think the English was perfect but that's easy to fake.

The thing that stood out for me though was the fact that he used 'sigh' and 'nuff said', both phrases that are very much widely used by people in the UK, and not likely to be used by someone in Croatia and I find it unlikely that Google translate would change something in any other language to 'nuff said'

  12. Sounds promising then :smiley-laughing002:

Our backline is shaping up quite nicely :87:

  13. Keep the faith, one mans Efe Ambrose is another mans Oliver Tebily.

  14. They way I see it is, they have made the champions league why would they sell one of their best players, he is clearly not one of their best players and we are taken a massive gamble on him with the reported money on offer.

Even his own fans don't think he is all that, not just the ones from this site who have joined but on the net. They are rubbing their hands with the money on offer. Worrying

Should have went back to the Dutch league to replace VVD.

I've heard its £2.8 million which sounds much more likely than £5.5 million.

  16. I know nothing about him but if Celtic are willing to pay the reported fee he must have some potential.
Even if he is described as raw I'm all for taking natural athletes and trying to train the nous and subtlety into them. *insert cheesy cliché about Michaelangelo's David and block of marble*

  17. You can't be seriously telling me we can't find a ready made centre half for the money that's been mentioned, that also isn't being universally panned by his own * supporters....what the * are our scouting team playing at....

  18. I agree, the problem is that we're now going to try to do this with boyata, Janko, blackett and simunovic at the same time....

  19. It's much better to take natural talent and make them athletes.
