Amazing the turnaround in opinion about this guy in such a short space of time.

It's amazing how far our centre back pairing has come in such a short space of time considering in Astana we played Efe and O'Connell(no offence to O'Connell.)

That's true but not many people were thinking of him as a first team regular. Now people want him in the team every week and are beginning to talk in terms of double digit millions if we sell him on. That's a big change.

Suprised at how well he's done. I mind last season being worried about him and was this season too, last season it stuck out to me that he was poor in the air, didnt seem to jump and was always getting caught out (Loovens like) and players were running in behind him. Passing always seemed decent but he always leathered the ball at *. He didn't look the most mobile either.

This season so far he looks quite quick, a lot sharper than last season and I can't mind noticing anything about him in the air has won balls easily and not been troubled that I can think of and even his passing is different from last season too, no longer hitting passes as hard at people. Also looks comfortable at running into midfield with the ball, something we never seen much of last season. Can also remember him being very eagre to get tackles into people quickly but this season he's not been doing that either.

Shows his whole game was probably thrown off balance with the slightly fractured leg he had, probaby not wanting to jump as he was getting pain off it and his passing going astray as he wasn't setting himself right to pass it or trying to shut guys down and win the ball early so he didnt need to run.

I don't think anyone wanted him to go as such?

There were concerns about him which IMO still remain. He has looked far more assured but his passing remains erratic.

Aye, I didnt want him to go but I was unsure of him. He didn't look good to me and now he's playing and in big games like against Sevco and in the CL and he's not been bothered much and looked comfortable.

Haven't noticed much about his passing being erratic, certainly nothing like Boyata.

I thought he was done here even after his move had broken down.

Glad he's stayed on tho what a player.

He never really made any big mistakes or anything last season, only one time I mind him having a bad game was in a home game against someone Dundee Utd ring a bell, think he gave away a penalty and allowed people to run in behind him 2/3 times. Other than that he's been fine but he did stick out to me as being very poor in the air, was either not jumping or mis timing jumps and a lot of balls went over him.

Yeah hes been great for us this season, I just thought that cause he was almost gone, he wanted to leave and would have been frozen out of the team.

The chipped pass to Lustig against Barca which sailed into the stand is a regular type of thing, not the exception.

He passes into touch regularly or worse to opponents.

The telling part for me, is how highly Brendan and the coaching staff rate him..

Not only that, but as soon as he was seemingly starting to get fit, interest from Serie A club's and the Epl appeared simultaneously and the link's coming thick and fast..

I think you're exaggerating how erratic his passing is PaulM. Aye there is the odd occasion he * it up, but no more than anyone else in the team. In general his passing is sound.

He doesn't at all, he messed twice out of the whole 90 mins with passes against Barca. Barca one of the best pressing teams in world for winning the ball back in putting teams under pressure high up the pitch. Also remember that was his 1st CL match and 1st game in 3 weeks he did very well on the ball bringing it out from the back and being brave. Should be saying the lad was excellent on the whole facing up against the most deadly front 3 on planet.

Every player misses a pass or two, including Toure and Erik for example. You're just nit picking here.

    Agreed.

On the whole, his passing is absolutely fine.
