Play a settled back 4 of Lustig, Jozo, Kolo, KT with Erik sitting in front as DM. This allows us options of

Lustig/KT to go wandering with Eric covering, or
additional cover for 2 CB's or
Broonie to go wandering with Erik staying in front of CB's, or
    Erik blocking opposition coming through.

He is solid, reads game well and can tackle. My preferred choice with Jozo as CB.

Sviathchenko coming on against Beer Sheva pretty much saved us, Barca game no one covered themselves in glory but he was solid in the 1st half. Yesterday was his worst performance in the jersey, no chance he's getting dropped.

Suddenly Sviatchenko isny that great after one bad game. Bollocks.

Sviatchenko and Toure will be the centre backs when both are fit. If one is injured or needs rested, it'll be either Lustig or Jozo who will replace them.

I don't think Sviatchenko is fully fit yet. Looks a bit off.

    Still like the guy.

Played for pretty much a year straight before/after joining us. Just when he needed a rest then a proper pre-season, he picked up an injury.

He does look a bit rusty, but he'll grow as the weeks go on and he finds his rhythm.

Think either Jozo or Erik could convert to DM? Both are fairly comfortable on the ball and would offer good protection to the backline.

Wouldn't mind trying that with Simunovic..

Not as ridiculous as people might say. Two footed, confident and willing to always look for a Celtic player instead of * his self..

For his first game back yesterday, he was very positive in going forward and finding positive passes to midfield. Looked good, until that corner..

I'm optimistic about him, barring injuries..

Jozo, no, too big but Eric,as I said earlier today, think could do the job.

Probably before you were a glint in your Ma's eye, in the 1950's & 60's the Italians used to play a system "Catenaccio", where the "Libero" played behind/along the back line covering all bases - usually in a 1-4-4-1 or 1-4-3-2 formation. It changed when DM's came in but I think we need a mobile defender sitting in front of the back line whose job is purely to protect the defence, especially if we are going to play a 3 man back line or have high pressing wing backs. The DM would effectively be the forward point of a 3 man triangle in front of any 2 CB's. The Germans played this system very effectively and Paul Lambert was brilliant in Dortmund vs Zidane's Juventus late 90's European Cup Final. It shores things up and allows the rest of the team the freedom to move forwards.

Think we'll see him and O'Connell start against Alloa.

I dont know what game some fans were watching. Simunovic looks weak as * water. Likes to step out but thats not what he is there for. At the equaliser he was posted missing and then looked to hand ICT the winner a few minutes later with a poor pass.

Not a co-incidence that we were looking to offload him in the summer. Toure and Erik are cemented into the 2 CB areas, and Toure's experience was missed. Lustig is decent cover for there, as is O'Connell who I rate as a better prospect that Jozo.

Happy for him to prove me wrong though. But cant see it.

It must be his first meaningful minutes in nearly a year.

Where does this come from that he is solid he was average last season when fit. Kolo and Erik have to be the starting CB's for me

He's never really been fit though.

Even when he played he always had a problem of some sort.

I think his injuries are probably the reason we were trying to get rid.

If he can get match fit I think he will be a good player.

Getting match fit is the big question.

I have been suggesting this for weeks. Convert Sviatchenko to DM, he could easily play that role.
Agree on Jozo and Toure as the CB's.
This set up would give us a fighting chance of still doing something in the CL Group and cementing our league position.

Personally, I think that Jozo is a far, far better prospect than O'Connell.

I think he was at best average under RD and looked lightweight. Also a worry that he has injury problems of the Boeriggter kind.

Just looks anonymous. Came on to, I presume, steady the ship and did neither. In the end he nearly cost us a point and did little to keep out the equaliser. We have better options, though I understand the club will want a return on the £ms we splashed out on him.

He may get a run against Alloa... but so what? It wont tell us anything, unless he is honking. Toure and Erik as first choices, Lustig and O'Connell and probably Simunovic to battle it out for the back up.

Sviatchenko isn't a midfielder in a million years.

    Neither are made for DM.

How about we just go out and buy a natural, quality CM instead.:56:

Because we can't, the window has closed. We have extremely important games coming up in the Champions League, make or break games. We have to improvise.I would be willing to try Sviatchenko, Ajer and Simunovic all in the DM roles.
What is not up for debate or at least should be up for debate is keeping the Brown/Bitton partnership together, it dozen't work, the evidence is overwhelming.

The only way to find out is to give it a try. Possibly in a league game or two.
And the term midfielder is distracting. It would be the sweeper role.
