Not too keen myself. Good SPL player but doesn't strike me as anything more than that. He has improved though, used to be useless.

Dont think he would be a first team player, but good squad player to have and its good the guy is on a bosman.

Stop the huns from signing him :icon_mrgreen:

If I'm not mistaken, we got Caldwell on a free & look to make a wee bit of cash after having him for 3 years.

Goncalves is in the same boat, he'll be given the opportunity to improve himself & see if he can push into the 1st team - he's free & offers little risk for a good backup versatile player.

Good piece of business if you ask me, I've seen him play better than all 3 defenders we have at Celtic (on occassion).

Goncalves is a good solid versatile defender who can also play left back which is a big bonus. He was outstanding against us in the recent CS Cup game at Parkhead, where he didn't give our forwards a sniff of the ball.

And on his day he is better than the Three Amigos we have at the back.

I thought he was excellent in the league cup tie at Parkhead, havn't seen much more of him than that though.

I'm not convinced about Goncalves to be honest havent really rated him much, seems a bit of a dirty player, has he no been sent off quite a few times for them, and If I'm right he got sent off last weekend aswell for booting someone in the head ?

On the other hand he could be ok for our resserve team if they need strengthed as thats no doubt were he would dissapear to

He can play at Left Back aswel, So I think he would be a good player to get, esp. if he is a free transfer, cos hes def been 1 of the best Centre Halfs in the SPL this season, & I wouldn't mind us getting him

If we can punt Mick for upwards of 1.5milions & get this guy in for nada on a smaller wage, then it's a total no-brainer.

I'd go as far as saying, he's a better footballer too.

Would rather see O'Dea & Loovens given the chance, but he might be worth getting in as a squad player, hopefully Caldwell & McManus' days are numbered.

As far as I can see, he is a left back who has begun playing as a centre back for Hearts this season. He could maybe do a job as left back cover once Naylor moves on, however I think we should be looking for at more accomplished and experienced players for the centre of the defence.

While it is true Concalves can double up as a left back, which is very useful to us, he is a very solid and commanding centre back. He dozen't give a quarter to opposing forwards, and he a nasty streak in him, which can be useful when the going gets tough, as it often does in the SPL.

From what I have heard we are definitely pushing the boat out for Jose.
