Politically motivated fuckwits? Is that a personal attack on anyone against wearing a poppy?

Its a plea to not politicise the poppy (which unlike Ireland is not generally a political issue in Britain) and to leave politics out of football as much as possible.

the undecided are people who are not all that bothered. Only a little over a third feel strongly on this. In a divide on a yes-no issue the majority must prevail.

I wasn't at the game, or a member of gb or know anyone in gb but i agree with their protest. Its not just gb members who disagree with Reid being there.
Would there be need for a protest if Reid wasn't at the club?

In all honesty mate, i'd never heard of 'the green brigade' before all this came about. Are you saying it's strictly 'GB members' vs the rest of the support?

How can you not politicise the poppy? Politics is at the very centre of all the poppy stands for. And personally i've avoided wearing it for years because of the politics behind it. And if i was a Celtic player and was forced to wear it, i'd have kicked up * about it.

No need to apologise chief we're all on the same side.....:50:

Anyway, the protests that saved our club are hardly the same thing as what happened last week. The GB protest was ineffective, that's not me saying all protests are non-sensical.

I thought your debating skills were better than this m8 :bbpd:

It's what it represents that's the problem.

What you think it represents is the real problem here

My point is that protests are legitamate if people beleive strongly enough to protest. the origional Celts for Change protests were met with this kind of disdain.

i think its healthy to have a differing opinion amongst our support. What I dont like is people speaking for what they think is the Celtic support "at large"

It's mainly the Green Brigade, yes. They were the ones who had the flyers printed up and who arranged the walk out. The fact they were abused by some of the fans shows the contempt they were held in on this issue.

They've latched onto the poppy wearing and contorted it to suit, to be honest. Of course everyone has the right to protest but there is no way anyone can draw a comparison with the Celts For Change protests and the GB walkout over the poppy wearing. They just don't even come close to comparison as far as I'm concerned.

I'll say it again as a lot of people either ignore this point or don't want to accept it. PoppyScotland and The Earl Haig Fund are charities and are 100% apolitical. They help not only soldiers but airmen and sailors as well as their dependants.

If the GB wanted to organise a rally, walkout or whatever against British Imperialism, agression...whatever....why not do it in London, or at an Army or Naval Base or Airfield? The simple reason is they decided to politicise the poppy and tried to dictate the agenda of how Celtic Football Club should behave in public.

I'm glad their protest died the ignominious death it so greatly deserved but I'm seriously disappointed the amount of needless and negative exposure we received in the media because of the actions of a tiny minority. And if anyone is in any doubt as to the extent of the criticisms we received...google "Glasgow Celtic + poppies" as I typed it. We spent years building up excellent relationships with people and fans from so many cultures and countries and now we suffer a setback due to the hypocrisy of the few. Disgusting!

I think it's an excellent point.

Lets put it this way. Take the singing of the famine song for instance and let's just say McGinn was still chairman and came out and criticised it. Do you think anyone within Scotland would have paid a blind bit of notice? I doubt it very much.

The fact that John Reid came out so strongly against it and used the language he used had a direct impact right to the top of Scottish politics both in terms of footballing politics and governmental.
