Wouldn't bother me if we had to pay 4m for him or break Brown's transfer record , Brendan wants him that's all that matters.

I never claimed anywhere that Brown wasnt aggressive. There was a claim that Mcgregor was the best player at retaining possession in europe. Statistically, that isnt true.

Away from home when we need a result, i think he could. He never stops running and his work ethic and guile will be needed in the games where we are up against it. Im confident that he will be dynamite for us.

Just because Mcginn would be signed, doesnt mean Mcgregor would be the one to suffer. He can play a multitude of positions. In the 10 role, center mid, left mid, and even used as a wing back. Its testament to what a good player he is.

As much as i a agree with the latter, how on earth is signing mcginn anywhere similar to the signing of Hayes?

Hayes was the star man for Aberdeen, McGinn is the man for Hibs, the similarity is that they are/were the best of the SPFL talent outwith any Celtic player.

Of course there's risk in every signing, and you just never know how a player will perform under the pressure of playing for Celtic.

I could never see the point in Hayes signing he was 29/30 with no scope to improve and limited ability.

McGinn could go onto have a great career for both club and country if he settles into the team and he would be working with a great manager to improve him.

Hayes is a player Brendan Rodgers knows and trusts to be able to do a job for him, the epitome of a squad buy, goes in here and there in many positions and does exactly what the managers expecting of him.

In Europe Brown and Ntcham have to play for me. That leaves one position left and I think McGregor would fill that. Or Rogic.

Mcginn would have to bide his time until Brown or Ntcham - most likely the latter - weren't in the picture. That's not even including Kouassi.

In terms of the Brown possession point, my second post was a reply to someone talking about needing that aggression hence why it was brought up. Statistically he may well be but he often has it in easier positions under a lot less pressure than McGregor or a player in a more forward position. Stats don't always tell the full story as cliche as it sounds.

All about opinions. I'd still like Mcginn here.

I don't think McGinn would have to bide his time , Brendan is big on rotation and there will be plenty of games to play.
It's not as simple as saying this is my starting 11 and i stick rigidly by it , it's a squad game and all the midfield have been rotated including the wingers the last 2 seasons bar maybe Brown, different opposition bring up different questions.

    Fair point.

For me, Hayes was never really good enough for us but i know there are a few of the opinion that he is. I felt that at the time he could have been a mid level english championship player. I do accept that Hayes was massively unlucky with his leg break and i would still like to see him prove me wrong.

The difference with mcginn is that he has quite a few years on him and that he has qualities to his game that
cannot be taught. He put in a series of strong performances against us, which I hahe not seen a player do in a while.

Yeah tbh i agree with that, but we now have the benefit of hindsight, i think the train of thought for many supporters was simply the fact that he wasn't any better than what we already had, so in that respect it was a pointless signing or one that lacked ambition, as Dev mentioned it was clearly with the intention of him being used as a squad player.

I rate McGinn highly, think he has all the attributes to excel in a Celtic jersey.

I agree, but if one is injured, who do we have of a similar ilk to replace them now that armstrong has left?

In the away games against the really top sides, id consider dropping the “10” and going with another midfielder. Dembele up top and try and use the wingers.

A few speak of Kouassi, but my concern there is that he has seen so little game time. Why? Fitness issues? I really think he needs a year out on loan. Rodgers sees him every day.

Thats a fair point well made. Im a fan of Mcgregor and i think he has a big role to play. Could be a big season for him given the form he displayed at second half of the season.

McGinn is (and was, therefore I dont agree Hayes has ever been the "best SPFL player outside of Celtic") a better player and 6/7 years younger than Hayes. Signing Hayes was a very clearly a bad idea. But McGinn is in a different category. I would actually try to include Hayes in the McGinn deal. He would be more useful for us playing for Hibs, taking away points from Aberdeen and the huns, than playing 15 minutes in the wrong position every other game, as he was doing before the injury

As I say I'd really like Mcginn here. Think he would be a good replacement and would only improve under BR. So aye I'd agree he'd be able to fill a different void. He's a bit of an allrounder.

Kouassi is anyone's guess. You'd have to ask Rodgers what the script is there..because I rate him and feel he's impressed whenever given the opportunity.

You're right about that but my concern is how much more can a player develop at that age when they aren't getting regular 1st team football, which I can't see happening.

If the fee is right, then by all means. I just hope he is not one of our big summer signings. If he is it's taking money away from areas of the team that really need strengthened.

Frustrates me when folk say that McGinn isn't the type of player we should go for as he wouldn't improve us.

    Hold on a minute...

Yes, he may be 23 years old with no real experience behind him but at what age did we sign Brown? We signed him at 23 with no major experience - now look at him, probably our greatest ever captain (excluding Caesar) and someone we rely on week in, week out.

John McGinn has got so much potential and I genuinely hope he will our player by the end of the week, but it's a game of opinions.
