Definitely, but even comparing what Brown was like at Hibs at the same age is pointless, totally different types..

McGinn will be good and welcome addition but he's not a replacement or any version of Scott Brown... if he signs he needs to be himself..and judged on that..

Playing under BR will be different for him and I'm excited to see how he develops, but patience is required too..

    I hope he gets it..

More skilful, more dynamic, more composure, better under pressure, done it a higher level over several seasons against far stronger competition.

    Pretty simple really.

Because we are a team trying to be competitive in Europe and I think John McGinn is *, he just runs around like a headless chicken and ultimately doesn't do very much. He wasn't even the best midfielder at Hibs last season.

Good stats, and some sort of basis for an argument, but not totally transparent. For a start McGinn played a lot of those games in the Championship.

Brown breaking through was battling against CM's like Lennon, Lambert, Petrov, Roy Keane, Arteta, Ferguson, Burley's Hearts side with Hartley, and looking like he deserved to be in their company. The standard from top to bottom was night and day, * like Latapy at Falkirk, McArthur and McCarthy at Accies.

McGinn has had a great debut season, it's clear the step up was no issue. Brown for me though was by far a better prospect.

In games where we need to press at a high tempo ..Brown sitting with Ntcham and McGinn doing the running could work well.

I’m not sure you watch him properly then mate, there’s a reason Scott Brown says he finds him his most difficult opponent to play against.

Far from a ‘headless chicken’ - his positional play is excellent, knowing when to press is brilliant man. Hibs have went toe to toe to us on several occasions this season built around him.

His attitude is one I think we’re majorly missing in Europe as well, and even at that, we just spent £9m on a highly rated French youngster. Why would you doubt Brendan Rodger’s ambition due to bringing in highly rated Scottish youngster as well.

Stefan Johansen won POTY at Celtic, would you rather him or Van Dijk?

Surely the fact the lad had some extremely good performances against ourselves, including Broony in his peak form, says more about McGinn than comparing him to a young Scott Brown does?

He was phenomenal in the parkhead 2-2 game and also in the Easter Road game post- split. If he can match us as an opponent I see no reason why he can't improve our team.

This is turning into a saga, get him signed he's a very decent player who will only get better. A good physical midfielder would be a welcome addition.

I just looked and McGinn is 4 months older than Christie and 9 months older than Hendry. I definitely expected him to be older given how he plays and how people talk about him. He is not seen as a project, a prospect, unlike those two. I would understand calling this lack of ambition if it came from people that criticized every single signing from SPFL, from Bain to Armstrong.

My only question is, we have Brown, Kouassi, McGregor, Ntcham, Rogic, Christie if we dont loan him out (i think we should) and in theory even Allan all competing for 2-3 positions. Nevermind the wingers. Why do we keep piling up midfielders?
Oh yeah. And Bitton. Even forgot about Bitton

Anymore than 2 mill and Allan and withdraw from the table..

He isn't worth more than that and Allan would instantly be their best midfielder and creator..

If we sign him, he'll get my support. Brendan will need to work hard on him though as he has some glaring weaknesses. Runs in to trouble/headless chicken. Passing is erratic. Touch can be abysmal. Constantly fouling..

Changed my mind on him a few time's. Could he do a job? Yep.
Am I excited by his signing? Nope..

I don't doubt his attitude, it is maybe something we are missing. We have enough SPL level players, we need genuine quality to come in and actually improve us, which I don't think Mcginn will. He's 24 this year, he isn't a prospect or anything anymore and i don't think we should sign players just because they charge about in midfield snapping at players heels when their technical ability leaves so much to be desired.

I know, but the particular stats posted were of McGinn's time at Hibs vs Browns, which isn't as transparent as it looks when written down like that.

This for me kind of sums it up...

Will me make him a better player? Absolutely.

Will he make us a better team? No.

This is bonkers to me, I genuinely can’t comprehend how people have wathed him this season and think he has no technical ability, his shooting is good, knows how to keep the ball, passes welll and reads the game very well.

McGregor was the same age as him at the start or last season, do you think his games improved or you just automatically stall and can’t be developed from 23 onwards?

We need players to provide more steel in Europe, where outside of Broony and Tierney we tend to lie down and show a cowardly side. We need more players in there who will take no prisoners while being good footballers. I’ve seen Robson, Hartley, Stephen Pearson and co all make a major difference for us in Europe based on that sort of mentality.

    The bhoys a pler.

This time next year, this thread will be a * laugh.

    It’s * embarrassing.

People making out like he just runs about and can’t do anything with the ball. He scored two very good goals against us for a start.

Some of his passing is fantastic, with both feet. He has dig and draws a * load of fouls by using his body better than just about anyone else in Scotland.
