This squad has just delivered back2back trebles , so its hard to question them or the manager they have answered everything so far emphatically. Brendan knows best what to do in the summer.

Europe can be hit or miss for even the most expensive teams assembled , getting out the groups would help though.

I just don't see it. Granted I've only seen him play against us and a couple against Hearts but nah not for me.

    Talking of Europe!

We are no where near strong enough as a squad to do well in Europe and the League.
It was a blessing in disguise to go out when we did this last season, yes we would have likely got away with it had we progressed a round or two more but it would have been bad for nerves. Just look at the results from the weekends following midweek euro matches! and this is a trend for almost any club.
It is extremely difficult even with millions to win or do very well both in Europe and domestically.

As long as we get the money (and reinvest wisely), at the moment that is realistically more than enough.

    Do not forget!
Celtic that year 2003! we lost the league! dead club stole the league because our concentration was on a bigger prize.
Dead club and their low life thugs shame in Manchester! we nicked the league that year, if my memory is correct at one stage they were something like 10 points clear.

Once 10 in a row is done then we can look to concentrate all on Europe.
10 in a row, the prize is just so big, so much more important is the total destruction of zombies, we owe the world this.

But if we (Lawell and BR) really believe we can do both, then we would have to sign spares as quality for the league alone. Like McGinn who is clearly a class act in the SPFL.

Yeah Europe and domestic is a big ask. Look at the Champions League finalists, 3rd place La Liga vs 4th place Premier League. Manchester United gave up on the league a couple of years ago to focus on the Europa league. It is just what happens.
In 2008 it heavily came down to the last 7 matches, we took 21 points and Rangers took 11.
Even with back up like McGinn to use in the league to play full strength in Europe I don't think that will help as we still need players who can step up in Europe as we don't have enough of them.

Love Broony now and for past few years!
But people want to be a little fair in potential and remember that McGinn is a very similar sort at a similar age to Scott Brown.
100% effort 100% aggressive and a little basic and often crude in the tackle.

Do you not recall Neil Lennon remarking a few years ago that, in his playing days how he thought Scott Brown was like a nutter running about everywhere! Never commented how good a player Brown was, just what a total pain Scott Brown was to play against.
That instinctive terrier like quality and having the natural core fitness engine to be able to be a terrier for 90 minutes is actually quite rare, whether at School level or world cup level those players stick out!
John McGinn from what I have seen has that quality. Whether that natural roughness can be polished into a real gem who knows. I would guess Yes.

If Broony had of remained just at Hibs! or worse gone to the dead club, would any of us be aware or admit how good Broony was in potential. I personally see remarkable similarity in context.
Broony was fair crude at Celtic for a season or three, but you could never doubt his effort or desire.

    Good point.

The player we have in Brown just now is very high level imo, but that wasn’t always the case. In all honesty, if you had asked me 4 years ago if he would develop into the player he is now, I wouldn’t have given him a chance.

I like the quality McGinn has but he’s very much a rough diamond at this stage, which is completely understandable. The difficult part comes in finding a place for him, there’s a few CM’s we need to offload before bringing anyone in imo.

Aye but Brendan plays 2 CMs and an attacking midfielder, and Brown, Ntcham and Rogic have those slots nailed down. Armstrong on his day of 16/17 season deserves to start as well and offers real dynamism. Don't see McGinn playing enough behind all of them in the pecking order to improve.

And tbh I just don't really rate him anyway.

Surprised as the negativity towards a McGinn signing on here to be honest. He’s been a standout each game against us this season. Celtic fan, young, bags of potential and a great attitude - what’s not to want?

I don't think he's looked any better than Dylan McGeough who we let go.

Keith Jackson, who comes across like a * * btw, seems to believe McGinn us in our thoughts but only if we don't get top targets

I think this is a good point. Glad to see Dylan doing well but he wasn't quite consistent enough for Celtic.
Still i'd quite like McGinn just because I think we should always take the best Scottish talent as well as looking abroad to improve for Europe. 2.5 million plus their pick of Allan/Bitton/Ciftci or Kouassi on loan and it's a good deal for all.

Made me laugh this season Hibs' best players were all either past, current or future Celtic players :56:

Paid em back for 1888 :34:

Opinion seems to be mixed amongst Hibs fans but only because of the season McGeough has had this year. Personal opinion is that McGinn is the better all round player and has the more potential.

I think as a club and a general setup - more so now - we are a place that a lot of Scottish prospect can really up their game in a professional sense. The whole setup is here for players to come in and learn the game at a top top level and step it up. Just like Brown has.
Think McGinn and Morgan could be here for the next two seasons slowly, but surely, getting more professional and honing their skill set to be more efficient and a major part to the squad. Just also look at Forrest this past season under Rodgers, he has stepped up his consistency massively and showing good form for it.

Some of his performances vs Hearts and Sevco were really terrible this season, put me right off him.

If you him play vs us, then you saw him score two at celtic park, put in a strong performance in december when hibs almost ended the run and then get the better of Brown when we lost at easter road.
He was also a stand out in games vs Rangers with the last one at easter road perhaps his poorest.

Both he and mcgeouch formed the midfield that has pushed us the most the past season. By Browns own admittance, Mcginn was one of his toughest opponents.

If we are talking about securing the best young scottish talent, then he is it.

His only questionable performance vs sevco was the 5-5 draw.

In the others he was a stand out. He was dominant at Ibrox and when Morelos stole Rangers an undeserved win at Eater Road

Not only this but Rodgers gets the best out his center mids by the way he sets up his teams. He had Joe Allen and Leon Britton amoung the best passers in the EPL at Swansea.

Mcginn coming in will give us added energy and steel which will be vital in away games in europe. It will also allow for Brown to be rested if needs be and may possible prolong his career as a result.

He was * in both games against the Huns at Easter Road.

Slivka ran the show in the first game against the Huns at Ibrox and in the second game he played left wing back while Scott Allan ran riot in the first half.
