If he doesn't come am not too worried; as for people using the McCarthy comparison, you cant miss what you have never had! £2m or GTF to hibs and let him sit it out to Jan/Jul 2019 or go to the championship and wish him all the best!

Does anyone think McGinn wants to be the next McCarthy? I know he's had a solid career, earning decent money in a top league - but what has he won? Absolutely nothing. No Champions League appearances, no medals or trophies, just a decent wedge of cash.

If McGinn has any ambition he won't be going to the English championship (unless he really desires a Championship winners medal from both England and Scotland...)

James McCarthy is pish and on his very best day he still wouldn't get on our midfield!

Complete nonsense. McCarthy was a very good player until he got all those injuries.

Getting back to McGinn, he's an excellent player. A massive club lie ours should not be messing about over 1/2 or 1 million. It does make us look like a mickey mouse club. I know BR wants him so lets get him. We have done the same with our players holding on for bigger price when selling

Yes we should, it's over 1% of our total annual revenue (based on a good season 2016/17) or equates to a £20k per week player for a year (a Tom Rogic essentially)

If being prudent with our finances for a player we have no immediate need for means some people think we're a 'mickey mouse club' then allow them to think that, they clearly have no grasp of the business.

£2 million is a more than fair offer for a guy that could be brought in for 1/10th of that in 5 months time.

Scott brown had just turned 22 when he signed for us not 24. If you think a 24 year old is young up and coming talent then fair do's.

Brown is more what I would term an experienced veteran.

Absolutely this. When Brendan Rodgers is telling us in press conferences that decent defenders cost money then we should be pooling our remaining budget into sorting this much maligned area out first.

Injuries may have * him but McCarthy was an excellent young player at Accies and being tracked by all the big club's. Wasn't just a sitter then either and was more box to box in his younger day's..

Smashed it at Wigan as well which is why he eventually got his big money Everton move..

AS I read on another site, Hibs have done well from us in recent seasons.

Their scottish cup win was a direct result of loans from us of Henderson and stokes. Not to mention McGeouch.
Last season we helped them out too arguably seeing them finish higher than expected.

If Rod Petrie wants to try and squeeze us for 2 extra million (which SHOULD be going to our defence) for a player we can get for * all in 5 months he can suck our collective arseholes.

We'll take him for nothing in January, and loan out allan or anyone else they were hoping for somewhere else.

Their making their bed, we should see to it that they * lie in it.

On the rare occasions that he was on top of his game, then he showed himself to be a good player but that has been few and far between and for the most part of his career he has been very run of the mill. Not a player I sit and wonder 'what if' about which was something I thought I might have done during his early showings at Hamilton. Nothing special tbh.

John McGinn born to play for Celtic claims Hibs star's former boss Danny Lennon
McGinn's old mentor is convinced the Scotland ace is more than ready for a move to the champions.

Danny Lennon watched John McGinn have the game of his life for Hibs against Celtic last season and knew then he was born for the Parkhead stage.

And the man who gave the midfielder his big break at St Mirren admitted his former pupil was so good that even the Hoops faithful applauded his performance.

McGinn netted a brace in a 2-2 draw with Callum McGregor also bagging a couple for the home side in an entertaining clash last September.

Celtic’s £4.5million Frenchman Olivier Ntcham was in the middle of the park for the champions but McGinn, capped nine times by Scotland, relished the challenge.

And Lennon believes the 23-year-old would thrive in the east end of Glasgow if Brendan Rodgers finally lands his man after three rejected bids for the player valued in region of £4m by Hibs.

McGinn’s superb display against Greek side Asteras Tripolis on Thursday night was watched by a host of scouts and it would be no major surprise if Celtic find themselves in a fight to land the midfielder but Clyde boss Lennon is convinced that he’s made for Parkhead.

The ex-Buddies boss, who handed McGinn his top team debut in a 5-0 defeat to Celtic in 2012, said: “I watched John at Celtic Park early last season when he scored twice in a 2-2 draw.

“I went along with my son and my wife and I was absolutely delighted that he ran the show and capped it with two goals.

“I said to myself ‘A talent like that is born for this stage’. I could even sense it with the Celtic fans sitting around me how much they appreciated him.

“They stood up and applauded him and that was brilliant. It can be daunting playing away to Celtic or Rangers, especially as some players maybe only play there twice a season if they’re lucky.

“To be quite frank, you can see them getting smaller as they run out the tunnel but not John McGinn - his chest gets bigger.

“He uses that fantastically well and oozes confidence. You can see the way he picks games by the scruff of the neck and says ‘This will do for me, this is where I was born to play’.

“The only surprise for me is how long it has maybe taken Celtic to make a move for John but having said that they’ve got great quality in midfield and have won successive Trebles.

“The likes of Scott Allan and Ryan Christie have gone out on loan so it would have been even more difficult to get into the team.

“And another season for John in a very good Hibs team - they had one of the most creative midfields in the Premiership - will have done him the world of good.

“He flourished and added a few more international caps to his CV and he’ll have a big part to play in Alex McLeish’s Euro 2020 campaign.

“The kind of figures being mentioned is big money for Scottish football and I’d love to see him staying in our game.

“I played for Hibs and know how big they are. They’ve played a big part in his progression and I know what Lenny and the fans think of him through at Easter Road.

“And if he does leave my preference would be for him to remain in Scotland, playing with quality players and winning more major trophies and international caps.

“I see John McGinn as being quite similar to Scott Brown who made the move from Hibs to Celtic and undoubtedly they can play together.”

Just three months after Saints were thrashed by Celtic on McGinn’s debut the midfielder was a standout for the Buddies in a 3-2 League Cup semi-final win against the Hoops. He was up against Victor Wanyama, who later moved to Spurs from Southampton for £11 million, at Hampden that day to book their St Mirren’s place in the final which they won against Hearts.

And Lennon knew from an early age he had a midfield star of the future. The Clyde boss said: “John was a kid at St Mirren when I joined and Davie Longwell deserves a great deal of credit for his work throughout the academy.

“I used to sit in the stand watching St Mirren reserve games and I would see three or four options when John was on the ball but I lost count of the time that he found an option I couldn’t even see.

“He didn’t just see the option but he delivered the pass. He was incredible at it and I just knew he had something special.

“John started training with us as a 16-year-old and part of their education was bridging that gap between the youths and first team.

“We brought young prospects over to see how they handled things and some did it better than others. Some returned to the youths to see how they would react but John never went back and even played in the League Cup final team not long after he broke through.”

Actually he has won 3 medals, Scottish Cup, Scottish league cup and Scottish Championship. You can mock that but for a non Celtic player who is 23 it is actually decent

Would we be better off buying him and loaning him back to Hibs for the season along with giving them Allan?
It’s probably a given we want rid of Allan and Hibs would want him.
Just don’t see McGinn getting much game time here this season so him staying put would help him develop.

There’s zero chance of that happening mate.. he will play is fair share of games..

If things aren’t too bad between the clubs, Kouassi loan deal would be ideal for all.. as others have said..

    Had mates suggest that.

Why the * would we b uy a guy, then loan him back and not get him till his original contract was run out. Just sign on a pre-contract.

Quite literally that would be the definition of a false economy.

McCarthy wanted to move to Celtic and was a fan so there are similarities. I would rather have players like this than fine haired players who only want to use us as a stepping stone.
