That's what I've been thinking too. It won't be long before a championship or bottom premiership team come in and offer 3 million and offer him wages that would turn his head even if he wants to come here. He's not going to stay at hibs and run his contract down and sign a pre contract when you run the risk of getting injured and us pulling out the deal anyway.

So accordig to BBC football gossip.....Lennon told McGinn that a move to Celtic might never happen after rejecting 3 bids. He said that's fine I'll wait to January and sign a precontract

A massive part of the draw of him for me is that he wants to be here..

He's not at the standard yet, where I'm worried about an EPL side coming in for him as he needs to prove it with us first..

He wants it with which makes a situation that we can manage properly..

I agree, don't pay them £4million if that's their valuation. But it doesn't mean they're wrong not to sell for far under their valuation. They'll make less money, as it makes it likely he'll leave on a free when his contract expires, but at least they didn't cave and let themselves be walked over. A full season of McGinn only strengthens them as a team, and if Lennon can pull off a miracle and get them to the Europa League group stage, it was totally worth it.

I know what you’re saying mate but it’s a short career, heads are easily turned and tbh, it’d be a very easy sell for an agent to say look you’ll go down there on £20k/£30k a week, how much do Celtic even want you, they barely think you’re worht a penny man! How many times have Celtic missed out on their man publically and went back in January? Not many etc etc etc

I think he's a bit different, he wants to be a Celtic player was never convinced the likes of Fletcher did..

Don't get me wrong it's better to get business done early.. but I'm confident he will be a Celtic player and may end paying a nominal fee to get him in Jan(probably be done before tho)

Hibs are gambling here, could end up with an unhappy player, unhappy support + £2m and a player down..

I reckon Lennon will do a pretty great job of handling him and keeping him focused if he doesn't get the move.

Fletcher’s a friend of a friend (I know, I know) and apparently he was * choking to. Effected him for a long time.

    Hibs forum

Reliable zoomer "I know McGinn fairly well and he comes up 'to me' now and again (at the petrol station lol). Celtic aren't his boyhood heroes and only has a connection due to his grandad"

Couple of post's later. John McGinn quotes of how hard it was to play at Celtic Park because of his season book for 15 year

Reliable zoomer "Saying they weren't his boyhood team was a bit much. They were his team blah blah blah the wee * never told me about his 15 year season book filling up the motor"

It's an absolute riddy how many on that forum try to play down that he's even a Tim at all, nevermind a massive one :56:

Wants to play down south, why would he go to them blah blah blah :56:

Aye it looked like it was going to happen under Lennon for a while as well and it fell through due to the clubs, he was well up for it.

It's always easy to play lip service after you've taken the cash down South.. don't get me wrong I'm not blaming him or any other player who is Celtic minded it's a short career.. but if he had really wanted it, it would have happened.. he was good enough.. unless he wasn't wanted by the boss at that time..?

We never stumped up the cash to get him. We fannies Hibs about that much by the time we put a real bid in, they accepted a lower bid to Burnley and told us to * off.

Would've been excellent for us for 2/3 year's after Hibs..

Wasn't bothered later in his career as he'd picked up too many injuries and wasn't prolific enough then..

    They wouldn't sell to us..

There was quotes of him saying he wanted it and to be playing in Europe and they sold him to England after..

Hence why I think there’s a wee * measuring contest between Petrie and Lawwell.

And squandered a year of his career when there was no guarentee that we’d even go back in for him? Nah, not for me mate. That’s asking a bit too much.

There’s some opportunities in life that you can’t pass up on a maybe.

Not blaming in the slightest he took the best deal financially for him but the player has all the power so don't say I wish it happened if you really want it you make it happen..
