  1. Wouldn't pay any more than 2.5m,if he still had 3 years left on his contract he'd be worth more but thats the way it is.If Hibs were smart they should have offered him a good long term contract last season.Petrie is seeing us as cash rich right now and is trying his best to get over the value price for their player.Let them sweat it out,we are in no hurry, our midfield is well capable of getting past these qualifiers without him.

  5. IF We don’t sign him this window he’ll be elsewhere, if Brendan wants him we shouldn’t penny pinch over £500k or so. We’ve all been here before, ‘we tried our hardest but just couldn’t get it over the line’

  6. I've not read the whole thread but thinking if we are offering £4m it can only be because there will inevitably be a bidding war and we want in there first before he's off on a free?

@trackebhoy Aye for sure Allan would have to be part of the deal, dunno how much he's valued at now mind after being out so long and generally having a bad time since he left Hibs. Only problem might be how long his contract is here and how much his wages are compared to what Hibs would offer him. He might just sit it out and wait for a free himself.

I think McGinn would be a good addition though that's only because I'm not a scout and I don't know what level of talent we have a realistic chance of getting. Culturally he understands the Scottish game and he could develop into a very strong character in midfield.

  7. If there are other teams looking at him then yes but I havent heard anyone else being interested. This is also a bit of a special case and I am also kind of counting on Mcginn refusing to go anywhere but Celtic because of the family stuff. That might be naive of me right enough.

  8. I'm Sure Derby were link when Lampard was announced. I'm of the same opinion as you, McGinn is going nowhere while he knows Celtic are interested, he is as much a Celtic fan as Tierney. Hibs will not be able to sell him if he has his heart set on going to us.

  9. In reality though that does have some truth about it, although the other side of the coin is that McGinn is a premium player in our league and we want him, so there's going to have to be an amicable agreement made if we desire him.

Part of me would be happy to wait until January and secure his services for * all, but the neutral part of me would rather see money invested back into another league team, plus the fact I don't fancy having to wait another full season for McGinn to come.

  10. Do you honestly think if we don’t bid he won’t be punted to another team? It’s now or never, we always do this when it comes to players in Scotland, the McCarthy business still * me off, as does Robert Snodgrass. Two guys who are every bit as much Tims as McGinn is, with talent under our noses, who we just let escape us.

  11. You honestly think McGinn is going to agree to go to another team when Celtic want him, you know his family links to Celtic. Did we even go in for Snodgrass & McCarthy?

  12. Yes, he will. Somebody in the lower reaches of the Premiership or Championship comes in and offers him £20k/£30k a week and we’ve not shown enough ambition in actually bothering to get to a stage where we can talk to him? He’d be off like a shot, I can imagine Hibs making * sure of that as well.

    We ‘showed interest’.

  13. How can Hibs make * sure of that? McGinn has a year left on his contract, he can see it out & sign for us on a pre. We have offered as much as McGinn is worth in the last year in his contract. I hope we don't offer anymore for him.

Derby have also been the only team linked with him

  14. It’s relatively easy to make a player feel unqelcome and usher him out the door, happens all the time.

  15. He knows that we want him.

If we are unwilling to meet Hibernian’s valuation, all he has to do is wait until the English transfer window closes, and he will force Hibernian’s hand. If he is not prepared to do that, then he is not the long-term successor to Brown that he is supposed to be.

  16. I understand that mate, when a player has 2 or 3 years contract to run but not one year. I also don't think Lennon would be too happy if Petrie told him that he couldn't play his best player, do you? We all know McGinn's feelings for Celtic & don't see him turning down the chance to play for us & replace Broony as many have said. I also don't think we require McGinn right this very season, coming in next season would probably suit us & the player better as can be seen with Kouassi. I don't see McGinn replacing Mcgregor, Rogic, Ntcham or Brown for the 3 roles available this season.

  17. £4m and a good Scottish Premiership player for a probable fifth choice central midfielder in the final year of his contract is utterly ridiculous.

    We owe Hibernian no favours.

  18. I would prefer to bring him in during this window, but we are in a position to play hard ball.

I think 1.5 & Allan is reasonable, if Allan is willing to go.

  19. Really thought this saga would be over by now at least towards end of the week?!
