Already lost armstrong and roberts and hes publicly stated about replacing both of them before strenghthening other areas of the team...looks like were failing at first hurdle.

We're not being held to ransom for a guy who we can get for free in 6 months and who will be a squad player.

I agree too much * about trying to get mcginn and we offered good money and lets move on and get some defenders in a right back and a centre half is a must .

We just paid 9m for a squad player and nobody batted an eyelid, after all it's a squad game but Dembele' is clearly ahead in development than Edouard , and investing in McGinn a player the manager clearly wants could prove to be a longer term better investment than edouard so then where's your theory?

I see your reason for concern, the board have been slow and tight in the past when it comes to transfer targets - but - we badly needed Fletcher at that time, and he was clearly only going to go up in value. We don't desperately need to sign McGinn, and his value will go down (assuming nobody else comes in for him).

Unless he has an absolutely blinding first half of the season that prompts someone to offer a lucrative contract we can't match, I think we'll get him one way or the other. If not, we still have Kouassi, Ntcham, Rogic, McGregor and of course Broony in that position. Ajer and Biton both capable of playing there too.

Good point, let's just pay over the odds for a guy who's distinctly average then :50:

Sounds like Brendan really wants him but I can see Lawells point in not wanting to pay too much for Mcginn when we could effectively get him for free in 6 months.

Lawell has a decision to make, either buy him now which Brendan wants or wait 6/12 months and get him for free, if he's still there.

If the difference is only a few hundred grand, I'd prefer to just bring him and keep the manager happy. I do think the fee is a bit on the high side though.

He's a Celtic fan so if he comes in and does the damage and develops under brendan your probably looking at his whole career here.

What “thing”? Looking for an issue where it simply doesnt exist. If there was, Petrie would have come out publically and criticised our handling of the situation.

Naturally, any businessman is going to want the best money for his product and on the other hand, the other party will want to pay the least amount of money possible for that product. Thats basic business. We do the same with players all the time.
Everton placed a bid we felt fell below our valuation of Tierney. Its up to Everton and in the Mcginn situ- Celtic, to bid again or move elsewhere.

If the choice is 4million on McGinn now, knowing he will likely only play half the season, or get him for free in January/end season. Then I'd go for end of season. Put that money towards a defender, that we actually need now, this season.

Lawells a shrewd * and he massively upset Peterborough owner Darragh McAntony with the way Celtic conducted themselves in bidding to sign Lee Tomlin a few seasons ago by placing a derisory bid.

Its penny pinching but thats what he is paid to do.

    I haven't said there was one, specifically said I wasn't sure.. :56:

The chat about them is above if you want to go back and look, I added my say in that if there was hostility, I would hope it wouldn't become an issue going forward.

Glad to hear it "simply doesn't exist" though bud, say hi to Peter. :50:

I wouldnt deal at that price either, but if we've offered £2 million i would add £2/300k on for the sake of keeping the manager happy. I agree with you about spending money good money on a defender or 2, that should be our priority.

If hibs want to ram their own hole and risk losing him to anyone in 6 months then let them.

He's someone I'd be happy with at Celtic for the right price but even for him £2.5mill at this point is far to much, especially when we go back to the point of him only having 6 months left.

Move on and look elsewhere, a RB and CB should be considered a priority over McGinn at this point.
