Shocked that Celtic are letting the big man go for such small amount i would at least command 1m .

Last Year i come on here spouting he was a fat lazy * etc etc but i put my hands up i made a mistake Give the guy the respect he deserves he's scored over 150 goals for the club and i do really think he loves the clubs as well. I thought he was going to stay well all i can say now is Goodluck Big man and Hail Hail :50:

He said for the BBC that he want fans to know that he loves the club so much and he's shocked now because he decided to stay for another year and to end his career in Celtic :triste:

Celtic striker John Hartson has spoken of his shock after learning that the SPL champions have accepted a bid from West Bromwich Albion for his services.
The Welsh hit-man has been the subject of sustained interest since the end of the season but looked set to continue with The Bhoys after productive talks with Gordon Strachan.
However the Glasgow giants have now accepted a bid of £500,000 for the former West Ham and Wimbledon man, meaning his five-year stay in Scotland looks to be at an end.
Hartson had been expecting to remain with Celtic for the upcoming season, and has revealed he even thought about extending his contract further before being knocked sideways by the shock news that a bid has been accepted from the relegated side.
"I'm shocked and disappointed," Hartson told the Daily Record.
"I had no intention or desire to leave the club this summer and I would like the fans to know that.
"I've had things to resolve in my private life but I felt I had sorted everything out.
"I've retired from international football to give me more time to see my kids and I was totally focused on going back to Celtic and trying to help the club reclaim the title and make a real push in the Champions League.
"I love the club so much, in fact, that I'd spoken to friends recently about staying on for another year and ending my career in Glasgow.
"But now this, it has knocked me for six.
"All I can do is discuss with my agent what happens next and I'll do that in the coming days. "But right now I need some time to digest what has just happened, it has come as a bombshell."

I find it incredible that when he was considering leaving at the end of the season to be with his family that he would not have sought assurances from Strachan that he was wanted by the club, and if he was given these assurances i think it is disgraceful what the club have now done. I doubt he will sign for WBA though, he's too good for them plus they won't match his wage, the likes of Reading, Watford, Portsmouth or Bolton will now enter the fray. Still in his hands tho', he may not fancy it.

It's always disgraceful to treat like that a man who has such a grand heart for the club. I'm realy shocked! Whatever will happen he will never walk alone.

I have indeed Dempsey but Celtic are forever selling players at knock down fees, especially some of our top players. Just disappointed as I see our team physically being weakened without Hartson. We are light enough as it is!

That's an absolute disgrace. He's far too good for West Brom, and he committed his future to Celtic for another year after his family problems. It's a slap on the face to Big John and the majority of the Celtic supporters. I'm guessing all the detractors who don't like the fact that he scores loads of vital goals will be delighted now.

Hail to John for all the memories, and thumbs doon to the board who can't let a Celtic legend leave with the dignity and send off from the fans he deserves (Sutton anyone?)

I never see it, maybe he does but Thompson is sitting on the bench for his high wages, i would rather see him gone before Hartson.

I agree, I think Thompson does play for the Jersey but he's been on teh bench for so long now. I remember the way he used to always give it lots against the Gers and Ricksen - fantastic. But sometimes he could go hot and cold. He would have been a better stand-in left back than Wallace in my opinion as would have Pearson.

Players seem to depreciate, more now than before, once the go past 30. Going on the transfer fee, i suspect that Hartson's wages are very high and we stand to save a lot of money by selling now. Remember he has two years left on the contract. Imagine his worth if he sat on the bench or didnt score 20 goals next season.

If he was on basic wage of £30k a week, i suspect more if you include everything. We'll save over £3M by selling now

Thats very true but this perplexes me - how comes Portsmouth were offering 1 million and yet Celtic didn't accept that? Who was the person that made this decision now and why was this not done before when a better offer was on the table?

Very, very strange in my opinion. Personally I think Celtic want him off the wage bill but I hope they are going to replace him although I doubt it. I think they will say Kenny Miller is his replacement.

What kind of rubbish is that? What about over 20 years of going to games, spending more money than I could really afford, I've never played for Celtic but I've given plenty. He's been a great player for us, but this is a smart move by the club. We've saved 1.5million in wages + the fee that's 2million to spend where it's needed more .......in defense. By the way, he hasn't scored anywhere near 150, more like 110.

Most of us know that WGS want his front men to have pace but i still say 500k is terrible for the big man .

And yes i would much rather see BBJ here rather than Thompson as he will be getting the nickname the Judge he never done much last season so why is WGS keeping him for this season i have no doubt Thompson plays for the Jersey but he's just lost it i think. The Seville year was his best and will always be rememberd for getting right up the huns :50:
