Ok, as devils advocate here, we've gotta assume that most of the midfielders are there with an eye to the longterm squad.

There's quite a few players we'd expect to see moved on in the next few years - Brown, mulgrew, commons due to age and bitton, Johansen, derk, forrest due to contract/transfer scenarios. There's 7 players whom i dont see being here in 2-3years, and need to be planned for in replacements.

Coupled with our stated intent, given our number of games per year, of 2 teams worth of 1st teamers, and 1 of youths, we need 15 players in midfield with a 5 man midfield. If there is a longterm swap out strategy we're going to have to topload it at first until we clear some out. Also, given the market we currently trade in there's gonna be plsyers who fail and need swapped out themselves.

Quality wise? That's a crap shoot mate... Nobody can say for sure who's gonna work out.

His form has been poor, yes. He isn't * as you suggested, is my point.

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if he did.

    Never disputed any of that.

Yeah because that makes perfect sense from what I said.

He said Johansen was *. Which is bullshit, proven by the fact he was the best player in Scotland last Season and continues to be one of Norways best players.

If he's still doing the business then it shouldn't matter what age he is.

His contract is up next year, if he's declined more then we can look at getting rid of him but as of now he's still a very useful player to have.

the clear out will be interesting, i hope we can re coup some funds for the players that are leaving. this could be put towards a marquee signing.

i think after two full seasons, The manger should have a good understanding of the 1st team squad and the development players coming thru? just a quick question? Who is managing the development squad these days?

if we raised between 7 to 9 million from player sales, at the end of the season, that will most likely be used as a replacement for the seasonal large sale cash we have witnessed for the last three seasons.

Again I think you are misleading, I grant you that he 'wasn't' * last season but this season he most clearly is and a manager cannot pick a side based on form from way back, the fact our midfield is overloaded with players not getting a game makes that decision even easier in my book.

Yeah, he probably is a bit concerned that he can't get into the side ahead of a player who certainly isn't performing to anything like the level he should be.

I'd have thought that point was pretty straight forward?

I see he is attributing our current lack of injuries to giving the boot to our physio who has been here since the Martin days and replacing him with the voodoo priestess.

edit according to his linkedin he was at Birmingham for a few years. Still though 17 years football physio experience and a distinction in his MSc means nothing to the jokers in charge of the football side of our club. Typical.

We need to sell a few offensive players. Too many of them, too few defensive midfield options.

Boyata and Ambrose should go replaced with a new CB, chase Blackett

    Izzy and maybe Lustig

Derk the wage thief, Johansen, Forrest, McGregor, new DM needed

Cole, Cifci, Scepovic, Stokes, new Striker needed

Id also sell Bitton to Southampton for the usual 10 million

Loan out Armstrong since Henderson will be coming back a better player

Forrest, Kayal, Maloney co's persistent injuries and lack thereof now would suggest he wasn't very good though.

You have drawn those conclusions fair enough but if you do a comparison with long time physios at other clubs you will see similar data of numerous players with persistent injuries. That's life.

His Four goals and two assists in the Europa League doesn't show that...

Lets be honest. He pops up with goals and assists but is invisible most games. Always find myself going "* sake didnae know he was even on the park" when Commons name gets mentioned on the commentary:smiley-laughing002:

Good servant and he deserves to stay around the club, but he doesnt deserve to start games for us.

    It is.

Johansen should be nowhere near the starting XI right now. Hopeless all season.

Except as soon as other physios worked with these players they cured them of those niggles.

    That's incompetence.

Here's what Collins said about the physio changes:

"'Ronny wanted to bring something different to the table. So he brought in (head of performance) Bard Ove Homstol and (his wife) Grete and added to what we had.
'He made it bigger, it has grown, and the fruits are now there for everyone to see.
'We had 23 first-team squad players on the training pitch today. The results are there, so that's very pleasing. It's what every club in the world wants.
'There is a different approach, it's more hands-on. There is lots of work on the muscles. It's hard, painful stuff for the players every day. The medical staff are stretching them, getting deep into the tissue before and after training.
'They all have programs to do, before and after. It's preventative stuff. That' s the secret. It's about keeping them balanced and strong.'

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...uad-hard-keeping-happy-says-John-Collins.html

And here's Armstrong on the same issue:

There has been many changes that Armstrong has had to acclimatise to since swapping Tannadice for Celtic but the latest is a new pre and post training regime that has the Celtic players pummelled and stretched every morning.

It is an attempt to ensure they are in the optimum physical shape possible with the onus on injury prevention.

“We have screening in the morning which highlights anything which may be tight,” explained Armstrong. “They look at anything we're not quite happy with and run through things to make sure we're at our optimum level to go out and train.

"It's not something I've had much experience of in the past but I think it does make a difference and is definitely worth doing.

"It's just a case of doing little tests and movements to see what's stiff and what's not. It's part of sports science and that's something they're very big on here. They see it as crucial to perform.

"I think you have to be open minded about these things. There is no right or wrong, ultimately it's what works for you.

"Hopefully it'll help us between now and the end of the season. We've had a lot of games prior to this point in quick succession so it's very important to do these things right.

"In terms of when we come in each morning it's just a case of finding a little routine which is right for you and adjusting it slightly by coming in five or ten minutes earlier. We see the physios, have breakfast and then start training."

That's the right way to do it, no doubt. Pleased with that.
