Good player in his day, could pass better than McManus but i don't think you can say Mick shows any less guts and determination tbh.

The guy is a legend, absolutely solid and took no *.

Remember the o.f game he got sent off, he flung maurice ross into back of the net and had to be held back by about 10players to stop him attacking ricksen(as he cowered away behind everyone!) :56: LEGEND

I'm sure I heard he is a fooball pundit in Sweden...the Swedish version of wee Pat Nevin.

I miss the big man, he never let Celtic down. One of those guys that once he's gone u realise just how much he brought to the team!

    Mon big Dolf!

Mjallby was a great big defender .. not alot of players got past him. He always reminded me of ivan drago lol.

Him and bobo back in the day were a class defensive partnership.

Scored a weapon header against England, where he charged through a sea of boots to bury it. Fearless and a pleasure to watch. One of the players that should've got a send off, but didn't. Loved him.

    Mjallby in the View

JOHAN MJALLBY had less than 60 seconds to decide whether he wanted to return to Celtic. But that was more than sufficient.

The imposing defender was on the way to get a haircut when his phone rang. Ex-team-mate Neil Lennon was on the other end of the call. When Mjallby heard the question - the answer was immediate and resounding - and he gave the full story exclusively to this week's Celrtic View.

Since his successful six-year spell with the Hoops, the former Swedish captain has always retained a special affection for the club. The chance to come back to Celtic and assist Lennon for the remainder of the campaign was a thrilling prospect - a bit of a dream come true.

A quick pack of the bags and one early morning flight later and Mjallby was at Lennoxtown, meeting the players, backroom staff and taking training. It had been a hectic 24 hours, but he was still more than happy to sit down and speak to the Celtic View about his dramatic return to the club.

“It’s brilliant to be here, of course,” said Mjallby. “The Celtic supporters will always have a big place in my heart, so when Neil phoned me in the afternoon and told me I had one minute to decide it was quite simple to say yes, even if I didn’t know much about what he wanted me to do. I packed my bags and organised my flights and now I’m here.

“Obviously, over the years I have met Neil at different functions and at different games here at Celtic Park and we have always talked about it. If he came across a job as manager, then he would ask me to go along with him and work with him.

“In the end it came out of the blue, but it was easy decision - should I go and get my hair cut or join Celtic?”

Of course, Mjallby’s arrival comes at a difficult time. Last week’s defeat to St Mirren signalled the end of Tony Mowbray’s rein as Celtic manager, with assistant manager Mark Venus and first-team coach Peter Grant also leaving the club.

With the season drawing to a climax, Mjallby and Lennon will have little time to make massive changes. However, what both of them have in abundance, and what was displayed regularly during their playing careers, is a remarkable resolve to win. Transferring that characteristic to the squad will be the immediate goal.

“The players are here to perform and do a job,” said Mjallby, “and we need to get the team back to winning ways and develop a winning mentality, which Neil and I both had on the pitch and in the dressing room here at Celtic.

“Hopefully we can at least get our message across to the players and get a wee big more organised at the back as the players are good enough to perform and get results – I am sure of that.

“When the confidence is not really there, there will always be pressure at a big club. You are here to win trophies and it hasn’t gone well this season, but hopefully we can finish off well and see what happens.”

I don't understand why Lennon would only give him 60 seconds to make a decision, surely he could have gave him 5 minutes??

Anyway it's good to see the big man back at Celtic Park. If he can't sort out our dodgey defence then..........:39:

big dolph is sporting some size of quiff in that pic.. johhny bravo style lol

Gd to see him back .. but of all the people i thought lenny would bring in as assistant .. id never have imagined mjallby. Thought maybe gerry taggart or someone. He obviously thinks highly of him to coach the first team , hope it pays off and we start closing the gap on the huns. Get a bit of dignity back at least.
