Our defence in the SPL is 'good', in europe our central pairing i don't think is good enough.

We keep saying we get record clean sheets in the SPL but that is a combination of our defence improving as well as the general level of quality in the SPL decreasing. Decent clubs in the champions league could take advantage of our lack of pace in central defence.

It has always been our weak spot.

The way our team is set up defensively looks good to me, the midfield do a grand job of protecting the defence too and we've really improved at defending set pieces. It's not the defence coaching that needs improved, we need to add that extra bit of quality in the centre of our defence.

Mulgrew isn't the slowest, partnered with Wanyama that's a quick defence.

Izzy is rapid and Matthews is no slouch either.

Totally agree. This defence is improving all the time, but it's time to add that extra bit of *oomph*!

I'm not thinking new guy until a new guy comes in. Thinking about what we have at the moment.

New signings are always a gamble. We might find the new Johan Mjallby. We might end up with Kelvin * Wilson.

Haha. We need to learn from the Wilson/Majstorovic disaster signings. Let's go, do some decent scouting (take Mjallby to have a look - don't just send John Park), get a reasonable amount of money together (not a huge splash) and get the best experienced CB available to us. Once he's in, he should be good enough to go straight into the line-up, such is the quality we should be buying.

Rogne and Muldini are fine as a centre back but we have no decent back up. Wilson is too inconsistent and the likes of Tosh and Chalmers in the youth team are no way near good enough for the Champions League yet. Get someone like Sean St. Ledger (I know we suggest him every season) as a reliable back up and we'll be fine

    Mjallby

Just after reading the 'Lennon to Everton' thread and reminded me about Mjallby. His wife moved back to Sweden in February (think because of Tim playing there) and Johan moved out of his flat last weekend. I know there might not be anything in it though.

I certainly hope everything is ok for Big Dolf off the field. I don't want to see him leaving given what a great job I feel he is doing along with Lennon.

There's been rumours of him calling it a day at Celtic for ages so I wouldn't at all be surprised if Lenny is going to need to look for a new assistant in the Summer.

Mjallby will be off soon enough to be a manager in hia own right.

It won't be at Celtic.......and i'll be quite happy at that.

I wouldn't be surprised if Mjalby moves in the summer to take up a coaching job himself in Sweden. If he does go, I would like to see John Hartson replace him.
